Spare wheel kit

With my new C2S almost here I'm beginning to think about a EU road trip. But the thought of being stranded atop an alpine mountain pass without a spare and no cell phone signal is starting to worry me. I'm curious what others have done to ease their concerns. BTW I was quoted a price for the rear seat mounted spare, jack etc. of circa £800 by Sutton Coldfield.

Are they having a laugh - the 'boot' is nothing more than a large plastic bag to store the wheel in (and the punctured one should you be unlucky). Its permanently on show on one of the rear seats too - for that money it should be leather trimmed toi match the seats !

The same spare (deflatable) will fit in the front boot but you lose half your luggage space, and a punctured wheel will NOT fit in the boot anyway. The pics below show home made bracket that was used to locate the wheel securely.

I'm not sure if you can see it - but the second picture in you post is blocked by Rennteam due to "leaching"

(For those that may be wondering what "leaching" is - it is better to copy the pictures to your own webspace and link to there, or copy to your own PC and upload using the forums facility, as linking to other sites means you are loading thier servers remotely - and for some sites that costs them too much in bandwidth, and they have to pay for bandwidth...[&o] )

That kit isn't much use to a Boxster...[]

Anyway... You might be able to get some of the parts from 996/986 series cars - contact people like Porschapart or Douglas Valley Breakers and you might be able to find the parts at more managable prices[]

Thanks for taking the time but I posted this information on rennlist. My purpose for raising this discussion topic here was to canvass a wider audience on possible strategies for dealing with the fear of punctures. The prices given in the post were provided by Sutton Coldfield but you are right to draw attention to the cost of the boot, I think it should be £1.96. I guess the dealer couldn't cope with a Porsche option price that much below £200 []. Prices from a German dealer are:
