Somethings to ponder over Christmas

We all know the 964 RS (in all its forms - rhd as well Simon!) is the rats pyjamas - and we keep telling them on this forum.
But there's only so many out there and as demand increases and good cars get harder to find, the prices go up.
We like the prices going up - it shows our impecable taste and our astuteness in buying one.

But we worry that as prices increase we're putting at risk the car by tracking or competing in it.

How do you resolve these two things?

Personal solution is to stop worrying, as the cars value goes up I get smug and have stopped feeling I should sell it 'cos it 'doesn't get enough use'.
But it still cost the same ever since I bought it - so I'll just go on using it as before.

There are folks out there with pre-war Bugattis & Alfas that still compete - can't afford to insure them and scrape round to pay for anything that breaks - what have I got to worry about! Happy Christmas!

This sounds like deja vu!
Take an ordinary 964 and retrofit those bitz that the factory added to the ordinary to create the extraordinary. The car will then be a 964RS in all but chassis number and which can be used and abused without concern to history and posterity. You will then have the strange delight of bearded busybodies (usually self appointed experts) mouthing off about something called a "replica". Whatever that might be[]

It's back to Colin's (Ninemeister) replica idea, the more the prices of genuine cars rise the more likely it becomes i suppose.

Alex reproducing a 964RS from a 964C2 is a very good avenue I agree, but will always be a compromise and an expensive conversion done to any degree, but with prices rising as fast as East London Property prices it makes sense........we are now seeing the early stages the 2.7RS went through with the early conversions..the 964RS will go the same way, essentially the tip of the 911 development in it's true form.the best of the best...notwithstanding the 993RS which was to me a further departure but not 911 shape and diluted.....[]

I'll bet that in ten years time 964RS replicas will be really worthwhile building , but I don't see that the economics of such a project are right today

hey tony, if you were unlucky enough to write it off at a sprint , you could rebuild it and it would still be worth more than my copycar!......ive looked at ads lately -only seen one for sale in uk for £31000 ......enjoy it while you can lifes too short etc............

That's pretty much how I figure it Keith. Car got more use this year so I don't even feel guilty about that! Should be back sprinting next year in standard class - just got to sort out what tyres to run.

yes the blue book wont let us run anything tasty in the tyre front, i still use pirelli rossos in the road class, great in the wet, squeal a lot in the dry, but gets me noticed by the commentators...........
