Some Import ant questions

sorry for the pun in the title I could'nt resist[:D] I am considering importing a Boxster from Germany. I have been down this route before with my 964RS. Anyone done the same with a boxster and if so what are the pitfalls? specifically :
are the lights switchable (ie they have a device inside that changes beam pattern?
are there fog light issues? assume it's a flying lead job?
i believe the trip computer can be made to read mph is that correct!?
can PCM's native language be changed ie german to english (i assume this is just software) or if a becker traffic pro can that be changed?
anyone have a window on costs?

If you mean the speedometer then yes.

I don't know about the rest.

I don't think the German ants that come with the import survive the journey.

what did i let myself in for[:D]. ty John I did mean the electronic speedo reading. So does anyone know if the standard lights are switchable???? it's probably in the handbook!

No they are not that's why I said yes if they are Litronic!

have to admit i quite suprised at that. I am failrly sure the 993 could do it and i know my 98 new beetle could do it. Seems odd for Porsche not to add that functionality into the standard lights.
 
Are you sure you mean switcheable from LHD to RHD?

Other cars I know of have a little lever for use on the continent, but this doesn't change it to a LHD pattern, it just flattens the beam so that it is neither LHD nor RHD but won't upset either.

It would be odder still if they could and they still produced an OEM kit to mask the headlights on 986/996 cars.

Ahhh now I understand. I thought the switch inverted the pattern, obviously not then. Oh well you learn something new everyday.
