So who was it then?

who picked up the Gaz Gold set from PH classifieds, spotted it thought oooh, then bugger its sold.

Are they really that bad? I know Al was saying there was some rust after only a few weeks?

I bought them. With regards to rusting, the older gaz used to have a thinner plating on them which rusted, the newer ones have a thicker plating and are better. I will be fitting them soon together with cutting holes in the rear quarter to re-index the torsion bar. Car slowly coming together now, due its mot tomorrow.

Well spotted Sandy, hope they work out.
Whilst you're here would you mind checking the options list for your car and tell me what the seat code is please. It will either be full leather or leather faced, there is a code for both.

Thanks

The front of the service book should have the same sticker unless it is a replacement book. The quality of the Gaz plating was pretty crappy, probably should have just painted them before they went on!

If you cant find the code (not the end of the world as many cars have had better seats/trim fitted), then you can tell easily by looking at them. Leather rears are far thicker then the vinyl used on the majority of seats and look and feel very different. If they had belonged in the car they were in theyd also be accompanied by other leather trim.

where do the gaz shocks rust? I had some on my tvr and they rusted a bit but nothing major, it was just on the bodies of the shocks. I will maybe just copper grease everywhere on them.

One of the best suspensions i have ever driven bar none on any car never mind 944s,i drove mine in the winter in the salt and slush,i am under mine alot on ramps and can see no corrosion yet.brilliant product[:)]

ORIGINAL: scam75

They will only rust to death in 6 months in the UK anyway, don't worry![]

The quality a few years ago was questionable from some reports I have heard of. I understand there have been many improvements in recent times. I am really chuffed with my 944 f+r Gold Coilovers on my 924 Turbo.

Mine are Gaz Gold and about 5 months old. Both fronts are in a dreadful state, about 70% of the bodies are covered in rust. The rears are not as bad, maybe about 20% covered in rust.

I am appalled and will be speaking to them soon. Will post pictures at the weekend. The performance of the product is good, the finish I'm afraid is crap.

5 Months!Would love some pics of which part to look out for.I had mine fitted at a similar time period (December for me) and i drove mine on salty roads no problems at all maybe yours have had more salt exposure, more miles driven.Wonder if EMC put some sort of protection on mine i will ask..

Easiest thing would be to spray with something like Rost-off/WD40 on a regular basis, it will sit on the metal as thin film but of course wouldn't stand up to much washing. I have heard of some ppl spraying cavity wax on for the winter but personally I don't fancy having to clean the stuff off again.

None of these shocks apart from the SS bodied KW's is going to stand up to regular all year road driving, I had a review of the net at some point showing how the different shocks faired but I can't for the life of me remember where I found it.

Not impressed!

That's appalling - do Gaz have anything to say? Another year or so and they'll barely function.

I'm going to call them on Friday and send them the pictures. Question is should I be looking for a refund and go elsewhere or give them another chance and maybe paint them or something this time?

Stuart

There must be something wrong with the plating on them. I just received the shocks from dom which he had on his car for 18 months and they are mint condition. I also had a set of gaz golds on my tvr and they have been on for about 4 years (in scotland) and they have some surface rust but nothing like that. Would ring gaz.

Ok guys, big +1 for Gaz!

I called them today and they have agreed to replace my front struts under warranty. I've to keep an eye on the back ones and they will get changed if they get worse. Apparently the nickel plating is contracted out so they will take it up with the company responsible, but to be fair to them my case seems to be extreme and not the norm.

They have also agreed to send me them up so I can swap them over before returning my old ones, they didn't really have to do that so another +1.

Also, the guy who called me back seemed to know the problem was much worse at the front, I did not disclose this information on the call so they must have read this thread on the PCGB forum. Another +1!!

If you're reading guys, thanks. Top service.

Stuart

Excellent. Theyll know to give me a discount after recommending them so much, then [:D] After the new parts have been fitted Id grease them - always best I think, even though it can fill the threads with crud.

Sandy: Ive found the template - now all I have to do is work out how to translate a piece of cut out cardboard box into a transmittable form.
