Smoke & tears?

Its been a bad month.
MOT due... failed because of front shocks!
Front shocks repaired (£150 to Porsche-apart & £95 to my local garage)
MOT gained!!

Insurance due... £300 to Footman

Tax due £170

But today on my way to the post office (to Tax it) I was distressed to see clouds of white smoke/vapour after a strange noise when the engine fired. So I've parked it in the driveway with thoughts of a head gasket (or worse) and the possibility that I could cancel the insurance and put the car or a SORN until I find out what's wrong and what to do!

Does it run ok? Tick over nice and even? Oil smoke is blue, and initially 924s don't generally tend billow white smoke when the head gasket goes. Check for water loss, and brake fliud loss. If the diaphragm in the brake servo splits the engine can suck in brake fluid, which burns white.

I'm going to have a look at it over the weekend. Its a 924S with about 110k miles on it. Fairly regularly serviced.

A quick look in the dark last night showed that the oil level is a bit low but the water levels look OK.. Other than that the engine sounded OK.

I wonder if it's just an effect of the cold weather?

Ahh. Enginewise it is a 944. That is different. Put a post on the 944 forum page. I am not a 944 man but I am aware that there are features of that engine that give the symtoms that you describe.
Good luck.

Check in the header tank for oil or oily mayonnaise. When the head gasket went on my 944s it never blew out white smoke.
