Smoke from small exhaust passenger side Cayenne

Hi All.
Have a late 2016 4.2 V8 Cayenne diesel. Recently I noticed some smoke coming from passenger’s side (underneath front door)…investigating further i seen a small exhaust. Is smoke coming from this anything to worry about and am I only noticing it now because of the colder weather?! Thank you

Yes I have noticed the same (but mine is 958 3.0L V6 diesel). I have not viewed the V8 D as I know I would have wanted it! Interesting to know the same small exhaust pipe is on both and in same location.
I had expected that to be what I would see on Cayenne’s with the ‘pre-heater’ option only, so was as surprised as you are to find it on mine - it’s about the only option it does not have!
So far the best info I have found on it is the following link on Rennlist, which says it is in fact a pre-heater that comes on when under 5 deg ambient temp. I think otherwise the big diesels would not get heat into the cabin quickly enough.
I noticed that if you turn the car off quickly (e.g. moving it between spaces) the noise continues for a while and does sound like a small diesel heater and according to the link it keeps running in order to burn off the fuel already pumped in.

If you find anything else on this I would be interested if you could post back here on PCGB.

Do you have the engine heater as it was mainly specked in Colder Countries? A mate had this and there was a small exhaust under the car
