I'm going through the maintenance on my 987.2 s and when i replaced the drive belt i could oil sitting on top on the engine. It looked like it was leaking from the rubber 'o' ring seals on the inlet manifold. So i investigate and found that the inlet manifold had a lot of oil in it, so i replaced to AOS. It never smoked on start up before but now i've changed the AOS it now gives a puff of blue smoke on start up.

Smoke after AOS

Blue smoke? The inlet pipes really need a flush through of WD40 then brake cleaner. The pipe is obvious to clean and unclogs easily.
get it dry before fitting back. The AOS oil creeps everywhere.
Also, make sure your oil level is not to the maximum!
having one or two ‘segments’ empty on the dash gauge is good.
AOS failure is white smoke and a LOT of it on cold start, as in lots.
My experience on my 987.2 2.9 Boxster.
