Skittles evening January 28th 2014

Our annual skittles evening at the Bell in Lower Broadheath, the same venue as the 2012 and 2013 events, which were very well attended and great fun! A 2 course meal for £8.95 (or 3 courses for £12.50) followed by skittles.

We will sit down to eat at 7.30 pm.

Appetisers
A bowl of steaming hot homemade soup of the day with fresh bloomer bread

Chicken liver pate served with a real ale chutney, mixed leaves and accompanied by warm toasted bloomer

Potted prawns topped with a light garlic butter with brown bread, mixed leaves and a wedge of lemon.

Crispy coated brie parcels served warm on a bed of dressed leaves with a caramelised red onion relish

Main Courses
Homemade individual cottage pie with a thick dark gravy and topped with creamy mash served with simply garden peas and carrots

Slow cooked belly pork served with braised red cabbage and sage and parsley potato cake

Our own hand carved honey roasted ham with local free range fried eggs or fresh pineapple

Golden beer battered fillet of cod, with tartar sauce, garden peas, seasoned fries and a wedge of lemon

Sauté mushrooms and leeks rolled in a pancake topped with a mature cheddar sauce and baked in the oven served with seasonal greens and buttered new potatoes

Chicken breast with a baby onion, button mushroom and smoked bacon sauce on a crisp rosti potato

Desserts
"Chocolate sundae" pieces of warm chocolate cake, topped with vanilla ice cream, smothered in fresh whipped cream

Apple "flapjack" Crumble chunks of stewed apple topped with a crunchy flapjack style crumble and served with lashings of hot Devonshire custard

A light raspberry mousse made with French cream and fresh raspberries served with homemade short bread

Mini cheese board Somerset Brie, Worcestershire cheddar and Blue Stilton served with grapes and a selection of biscuits

Steamed sponge pudding topped with sticky syrup sauce and served with rich vanilla ice cream

Tea and coffee available from £1.95

Is it too late to include 2 interlopers from the R9 Region? If possible would you include John & Caroline Walker.

The final total was 27 members and their partners at The Bell last night.

After a very pleasant meal (some of you please try to remember what you ordered next time!) we then played an enjoyable, if not always skilful, 9 pin skittles tournament.

Sylvia emerged as the clear winner of the ladies prize, but at the end of normal play there was a tie for the men's trophy between Richard and Rob C. After the first bowl off they were still tied, and the tension was mounting, but the pressure got to Rob in the second bowl off and Richard eventually triumphed. At the other end of the scoreboard, Christine carried off the booby prize!

We hope you all enjoyed it, see you again next year we hope.
