Three cars and five people from the IOM region went to the Silverstone Classic event and what a brilliant weekend it was. I'd thought about going to this event the previous year too, but decided to wait for the 50th anniversary of the 911 to make my trip.
It was fantastic to see so many Porsche's together and meet so many other enthusiasts. Porsche Club staff and volunteers did a brilliant job with organizing our area and we made great use of the refreshment tent which was selling drinks at very reasonable prices. Thanks to all involved. []
The racing was fantastic, it was so nice to see some of the old saloon cars, Grand Prix cars and Sports Cars racing around. They were racing too, not just pottering round looking after their cars. I loved the sight and sound of the Lotus Cortina's and Mini's. The Porsche 917 looked and sounded great and the weekend was made for me when I watched the Group C cars.
And, of course, there was the Porsche 911 50th Year Anniversary parade lap which we all took part in. It was a long wait before we got onto the circuit but it was worth it. A great experience.
Here are a few photos just to give other IOM members a taste of the event. I will certainly go again in the future, although I don't think there will be quite as many Porsche's there next time! []
We saw Charles once or twice but he'd been given access to the Racing Drivers Club, so was enjoying himself. Here's his car though:
Waiting for the parade lap.......
And finally.... we are off..
Some of the wonderful cars that were there:
Mike was more interested in Jags and Morgans.... tried to show him the error of his ways...
My favorite..... before the accident!
Some guy called Derek that Julian said seemed to know a lot about Group C racing []:
Thanks to everyone who I spent time with over the weekend including Charles, Julian, Leslie and Mike. Some of the photos above were from Mike and Leslie.
Congratulations to the Porsche Club too, on a job well done. I'll be back.
