has anyone had a problem with side lights/parking lights on an s2 or turbo?? what happens is that the headlights pop up on the 1st position of the knob (parking light displayed on dash) and come on and the sidelights in the bumper cluster do nothing.. the bulbs are ok. this happens with the ignition off..any ideas!!! everything else seems to work ok (well the lights anyway!)

cheers pete

In my car if the ignition is off then the sidelights go off unless you move the indicator to left or right position and then they come on, presumably to act as parking lights.

This doesnt seem right, headlights (mine anyway) come on at 2nd position with ignition on, only side lights come on at first (and then fogs front and rear if you switch them on). Side lights will stay on once ignition is turned off, but headlights will not. Seems yours are wired up incorrectly? Im no expert on the matter, someone maybe able to help you more.

My S2 sidelights come on in the first position of the knob then main lights come up on second, sidelights will stay on if the ignition is turned off the main lights go off but the sidelights stay on, if no lights on and the ignition turned off with the indicator on left or right the appropriate sidelight will come on and stay on as a parking light.

I know some early cars or US spec have strange lights where both sets come on as sidelights there is some information I am sure on the forum regarding dip/dim lights and the conversion to normal (or as expected) operation maybe someone has tried to do this with yours and got the wiring wrong.

thanks for the replies..

i think it might be time to try and find the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual cd i got off ebay!!

cheers

IN an attempt to stay ahead of expected changes to lighting regs some models of 944 of early oval dash vintage were wired so that there was not sidelight on headlight down position or something like that. As mentioned there is more deail about it somewhere else in this forum. The changes did not happen so I believe Porsche went back to the standard wiring. Some one with greater knowledge my come on, cross the "T"s etc. It is unlikely that the headlights are "wired incorrectly" IMHO. It all just seems like too much trouble to do it. Beware of broken conductors where the headlight wires bend for opening and closing. This is quite common and it is completely random which one of the three wires will break. They did on my 944s and on one of my 924 turbos. As yet no issues with the 944Turbo (left) and of course the 996T doesn't have folding lights

It was built into cars around 88 like mine. There is a mod on this forum that I have embodied into mine. Works a treat [;)]
