Seriously rusty rear quarter

Another (final?) thrilling instalment...

I was worried it would turn into a mission... and to be honest it did! Good learning experience... need to have a break and then tackle the sills, front wing, a patch on the roof and a patch on the windscreen surround. I'm not scared of bodywork any more... as soon as you learn how to fill holes with weld it seems you can recover from most situations!

At least I know the job is done properly, all the rust was cut out, all the new metal is properly protected.

Andy: I used your recommendation for the paint... works a treat and is a pretty good match.

Any tips for blending the paint? I used the folded back masking tape trick but still ended up with quite a hard line. The colour is a good match but not spot on and the finish is not perfect, a bit orange peely. I was thinking about flatting the new paint with 2000 grit wet and dry and then using a cutting compound on the whole area to try and blend it in.
 
I would not have used masking tape at all where blending up the quarter, only masking off the areas that don't need paint, if that makes sense? You should get a more graduated finished then rather than a line. Either way, flatting it back should sort it. I would have thought 2000 grit was too fine. Maybe 800-1000. However, as long as you can wet flat it smooth then you can polish it up to be shiny [:)]
