OK, so which of our great minds can explain why the sky is darker on the red side of the rainbow ??

Colour intesified --- but only a little !

Its all down to discs of light, on the inside of the rainbow the discs overlap and therefore appear brighter than the discs of light outside the rainbow which don't overlap.

Cheers,

It's to do with rotation of the Earth. It's a bit later on the left side of the rainbow hence it's darker. :)

Its the camera on timed exposure stopped down to F1 and with a high speed 3200 Kodachrome grain emulsion film with the exposure pushed at the critical moment using a side advanced top filter .... [:D]

I dunno either ...

'Spoke to the editor of one of the Pro Photo mags who suggested I should ask the New Scientist mag ... ?

How weird....when out walking the dog last year along the Trent I literally watched the rain move across in front of me (I was bone dry) and a rainbow form in front of my eyes. I took 2 pics with my iPhone and wanted to get them merged together but never got round to asking anyone.

I've just checked my phone and they are exactly like Chris's pic.

Never even noticed it before!
