Hi All

great forum, was after a little bit of advice.

ive recently purchased a 2016 991 GTS in sapphire blue having part exchanged my 997 GTS in which held onto its value very well, actually made a bit.

Anyway very happy with the GTS, the NA engine with the sports exhaust really does sound amazing and overall the car is stunning.

the price of these cars is pretty serious now, with my GTS costing around £95k. I've always tried to use my cars as daily drivers but I am now thinking it may be best to keep the GTS for weekendeds and sunny weeks, rather than leave every day at the train station, will also help keep the mileage down.

just wondered what others did as a second car option. I've previously had GTI's which are good, hear very positive things about something like a newish Mountune Fiesta ST in EVO etc.

All thoughts welcome, budget would be 13 to £15k, maybe a little higher but having just purchased the GTS suspect my wife may have some thoughts.....

Personally I'd get a shed for a grand or two if it's just to get you to the station. Few bumps and scratches not a problem. I've got a ten year old Jazz, worth peanuts, runs well, costs little to run. Fiesta, Polo, Clio etc. plentiful.

Good choice with the GTS btw and in Saphire Blue but we need pictures

I run a 2013 focus tdci as a daily driver , (50mpg on short runs) a few of the blokes I work with have st fiestas standard and mountune ones ,182ps standard ,215ps mountune ,good fun little cars mountune cars need to be run on super unleaded only (different airbox and ecu flash on them ,you can get a standard st and ford dealers now do the upgrade for about £800 ) standard st is quick enough,and more reliable we saw a few det issues on 215 ps engines due to them being close to their limit.don,t seem to happen on standard 182 ps ones and they can be run on normal 95 octane fuel (I work in engine testing dept )

had a Golf GTI MK7 a year or so ago, great car. I tried the thought of a Golf R with my wife but got that look so backed off

the GTS is stunning hence I want to keep it as a weekend car, I'll post some pictures once I can work out how to on the forum.

good call rich mich, test drove the Fiesta ST and thought it was a real old school hot hatch. Probably wouldn't bother with mountune from what you say though. By the way like the collection of bikes have a GS and S1000r sport which are great fun

i had a 1.8 tdci focus yes great run arond
now got a 998 turbo
2014 fiesta again i like it very much
its a bit slower than my 993 thou.

What about a BMW E46 M3? Good for practicality and performance! You can pick up a well looked after one for around 12k. Must be one of the best performance cars currently for that sort of money.

m3 is a cracker, but thought rear wheel drive on B roads in winter could be interesting. In the end I've gone for a 65 plate Fiesta ST, in thug (sorry spirit) blue. First impressions are its a cracking car, handles brilliantly and doing about 40mpg.

I use an Audi S3 S-tronic on a daily basis and leave it on the station car park. Also fun for threading down narrow Shropshire back-roads and good on motorways with magnetic ride. Otherwise an 11 year old and very sweet-running 3 cylinder Polo, which I am selling now my girls have left home.

Yes was tempted by an S3, nice car. But the ST is working out well, getting about 40 mpg and smiles per gallon are even more ??

sorry to revive old post, just to let you know ,car thieves are targeting fiesta st,they smash window and put a device in obd port which will disable alarm and immobiliser, a friend in work daughters st 200 got stolen last night from port Talbot, all on cctv, police said they have seen a rise in thefts of these vechicles, check out on google "stolen st fiesta" lots of info on ford owner club forum ,one fix is to remove obd socket to under dash and fit a dummy socket or remove fuse 19 in fuse box so obd socket has no live feed,there is also a obd cover/lock available. hth

Well I think ford should supply lockable cover FOC as they had not given enough thougt to security.

Also so my second vehicle for daily use is a £300 Astra don't worry about parking damage

Thanks for the heads up, heard the ST's are targeted by a police guy I know. Have to say the ST is a cracking daily, shame some people can't just save up and buy a car like the rest of us
