Seat Belts

Hi everybody,

Question about seat belts.

On my MOT that I had recently the car passed fine (thank goodness) but I had an advisery about the passenger seat belt starting to fray. On closer investigation I have found that the seat belt is infact from a VW/Audi (what sort I don't know). So...

I have found a pair of belts that seem to be in good condition from a 924 (1981) on ebay and I am wondering if they will fit my 1980 SC, or do any other manufacturers fit ? Anybody got any ideas?

Having looked at the installation pretty much any vertically mounted retractor with a D loop could be used. You would have to use the corresponding buckle to ensure compatability and this may limit your choice by what will mount in the same place on the floor.

I would absolutely not used any second hand belts though. You have no idea of the history and they don't look damaged after loading, just stretched, they only stretch once!

Securon do a good range www.securon.com, a 500/15 kit would be fine for your car. The 500/30 is recommended for 911's but the flexible stalk is too long and puts the buckle in your lap, somewhat less than ideal.

You can get them from motor factors like Partco.

Hope this helps

you have to be careful with the mounts though. Someone recently replaced the belts on my '86 3.2 and now they do not retract through the holes in the rear panels correctly, the brackets are slightly different.

Had mine done by Quickfit Safety Belt - did a first rate job. Not quite what you wanted, I know, but thoght that I would add my two penneth.

I've heard that VW items will fit. Not sure which model though. I need to replace mine too.

How much did Quickfit charge?
