Seat belt quote for early Turbo ouch !

Just phoned the well known SBS seat belt co.

Inertia to buy from them £180 with brackets + fitting of £198 total £378 no way I'm paying that to take passengers to the occasional show/event.

Fixed 3 point belts £96 delivered fit myself.

I really would prefer inertia belts as I could easily get some from another 944 but does anyone know someone who could fabricate the two required brackets or has anyone done this and have a pattern for the brackets. If not I may go for fixed 3 point belts fiddly but safe.

Regards

This was done recently, last month. Tipec or here.

Iv got rear belts if u need them, and all the hard wear. Could give u correct mounting points but need wield in I think.

Lee, speak to Alasdair. You need a set of inertia reel belts and the mounting brackets. Alasdair knows exactly what youll need and are trying to do and will supply the parts for a modest price.

Youll then need to find someone who can weld the brackets onto your body - after this youre away. '86 Turbos came with inertia lap belts IIRC, and these will always find a buyer which will mitigate the cost.

If I was trying to three-point-belt an older car then Id have asked QuickfitSBS for a price for a pair of static belts. Theyll bolt straight in and adjust in a second. Considering how much of a big deal most people make when getting into the back of a 944 (Im 6'3" and weight 17stones and I can get in relatively easily!), I dont see that spending a few seconds tightening a belt is a big deal.

If you have difficulty getting the brackets and belts from Alisdair i have a couple of sets here

cheers

LOL never sends huh [;)]

I have been told by everyone previously that there is a bracket is needed but no one up to know mentioned welding ?

Can one of you expert chaps confirm if there is welding to be done please ? . If factoring in the welding as well as the extra cost and hastle I might just go and fit fixed belts.

Yes 944man I did get a price from SBS just to supply the fixed belts and I have since found a Vee Dub specialist who sells fixed 3 point belts for 60 quid delivered !

So its either Vee dub fixed or inertia second hand i think ?

As an aside I'm really looking foreword to getting stuck in to the car tomorrow.
You know despite all the 'snagging' she really is a lovely motor.

Cheers

Echo what Terra has said the carpets with the inertia reel seat belts fitted are of a different shape so factor that £ in, i fitted a set of lap belts in the back of my 86 T about £30 on e bay, half an hour to fit.

Lap belts arent an option for me as they dont offer the same protection and i could easily have a child in the back. Three point fixed belts would offer good protection though so if not inertia ill go for them :)
