Sealing the rear light clusters

Any suggestions as to the best stuff to use? Both of mine allow water in. Ive scraped off the dry cracked sealant which was there and have temporarily masked the gaps using electrical tape.

The gaps seem to be quite wide ie 5mm+ so the tape type stuff would probably be no good.

Cheers

I tried loads of stuff on mine, eventually I drilled a tiny hole in the bottom of each fog light. I couldn't stop the water getting in, so I just made it easy for the water to get out again [;)]

You can buy on ebay a sealing tape/putty that's square and should do the job. I'm not sure what it's called though! lol

That's the right stuff, although I think I had a smaller size from memory.

It needs to be really cleaned up, very warm, and bolted up nice and evenly. Mine was done in the bodyshop with the heaters on it to soften it properly.

DDH - I have some of the proper seal stuff, from another member on here a while ago. It is from Porsche, but isn't the best option.

If you want some then let me know - it's yours for the cost of the postage.

Cheers for the replies.

I will try some of this butyl stuff from fleabay and if its no good then I may take you up on that offer Oli!

I have cleaned the area up so im ready to go, I just need to wait for the sealant.

I have a roll of the eBay stuff yours if you want it.

I prefer the Porsche option the butyl is a pain if you want to take the light out again

I suspect that the Porsche stuff is Butyl; it's heavy and black and sticks like bu99ery to the car paintwork.

The stuff from Porsche I had for my Lux ten years ago was the same as the ebay option above.
In that case I'm glad I haven't ordered it yet[:D] I used 8x5 neoprene self adhesive tape its never leaked and is easy to remove the lights which in my case is a plus as the car spends more time in bits than on the road I could only get it in white so on the look out for the same in black
