SCOTTISH BORDERS WEEKEND APRIL 5TH

Hi Folks, as we have done in the past three years we are organising a weekend away, this year in the Scottish borders staying in the Mansfield House Hotel which we used three years ago and those of you who went I know will agree with me that we had a great time, they are very accomodating, we will have a large room and bar to use on the Saturday night so we can dine together and I will organise the usual quiz [], the hotel is excellent in a lovely setting, details if you want to check it out are here;

We currently have all twelve rooms on hold, we more or less filled them all last time, can we do the same again!

Rates and details of the rooms available are as follows;

With the exception of 2 rooms that are twin bedded the rest can all be made into Doubles and if it were required 3 can actually accommodate a family or 3 people. There are 4 rooms at the basement level and the B&B charge for these would be £70; the 4 big rooms upstairs £90 and the other smaller ones £80. The meal and price can be arranged later once we have numbers. If you haven't been away before with us the schedule usually takes the form of an early meeting point on the Saturday morning (9 or 10ish) a drive somewhere for lunch and then on to the hotel by mid-late afternoon, time to do your own thing then dine around 7-8pm and then a few drinks and a light hearted quiz. In the morning after breakfast a trip somewhere for lunch and then the drive home, all these details are to be sorted out in time of course, my main concern is to get numbers ASAP as the hotel owner is holding all the rooms for us at the moment. lesley & i are okay for the weekend in principle, but also won't be around in the UK a great deal so it must depend on the dates - will speak on wednesday at the Porsche Centre with my diary to hand! PS can you talk them into lending a Cayenne GTS to try out in the wilds of the Scottish Borders to add to the occasion? [8D][][]

Kind of related this one:
I'v been working in Hawick for the last few weeks and yesterday had reason to take a slightly different route there (I usually travel from Berwick upon Tweed). If you get the chance, take the A68 north from Newcastle and turn off onto the A6088 towards Bonchester Bridge/Hawick: its a truly fantastic road - very quiet but with long straights, tight hairpin-like bends, lots of hilly bits and the most amazing scenery. The sun was out yesterday and I managed to get the top down for a while - a great drive. Don't miss it if you're in the area.

If you are down near Dumfries/Castle Douglas road A75 go to the David Coulthard museam in Twynholm then onto Gatehouse of Fleet take the B762 single track road to Lauriston where you could possibly see eagles , then join up with then A75 back to Dumfries

Would be good to meet up with you and your region Brian. We are staying at Hawick on the Saturday so Dumfies is perhaps a bit out of the way when we have to travel up from Durham and elsewhere, but I'm sure we could sort something out [] let me know if you have any other suggestions.

For those of you going in case you miissed my emails the plan is to meet up at 9am to 9.30am on Saturday, at the car park of the Toby Carvery at Kingston Park, just off the A1 past Newcastle, the directions are;

Take the junction sign posted for Newcastle airport (A696) and then the second exit (if you're heading north) sign posted Kingston Park. The Toby Carvery is on your right, however you can't cross due to a central reservation, follow the road to the next round-a-bout and head back on yourself and take the first left into the car park. There is a small car park straight away on your left; this is where we will all meet. There is a petrol station at Tescos a few seconds further down the road, so make sure you have plenty of fuel onboard as no petrol stops are planned over the weekend. We will spend the day at Alnwick Garden and head upto the hotel mid afternoon, a few hours break and then an evening meal and quiz.

Great weekend as always, thanks to everyone who took part, especially Peter and Linda from Rehion 5, it was good to have your company for the weekend, i hope you got home ok []

What a shame about the weather, the snow was unbelievable, thanks for taking the lead Alan, a pity we couldn't go on your run which you had put a lot of time into, we must do it later in the season []
