Scottish 944 meet

Yeah good day, good to see people again and others for the first time. Special mention to the long travellers, helped make it a great day and well done the catering staff and the gazebo meister!

Looking forward to the pics as I was too busy spannering when all the arty picturing was going on, it was an impressive line up though!! Alan (loc944) got to drive my turbo 15 feet so expect to see his lux on pistonheads soon...........................................

Oh and well done Alasdair, I think we ended up fixing getting a 150 point PPI conducted on Mr Simkin's turbo, Steve's (Scrichton) fuel problem fixed, complete suspension change inc. hub refresh and spacer removal on Steve's car, 3 digital clocks resurrected and adjustable drop links and strut brace onto mine to end the day!

Not long back the roads were horrible, down to 20 mph nearer home because of fog, could to put names to faces and everyone was so friendly, never got to count but there must have been 12-15 cars turned up, but non from Cumbria as ours are made of paper and dissolve in the rain !
Sorry correction Steve from Carlisle brought his car.
Had a good run on the hot rolls, a bit sad to see what at one time were nice cars but now sadly being broken but then again keeping others going.
I would love a workshop like Alasdairs, pretty sure he would be chasing me if i lived local as i would be pestering him for "lift time"
Stuarts car is looow, and loc,s car was uber shiny after a Zymol session,Stuart also pulled out all the stops trying to fix Onno's heat all the time problem, i owe him the keys to my house as i bet it would be the infamous clip, it wasn't nor the vacuum valve and Stuart also fitted 2 x new heater control units, still no joy,a strange one that ?
All in all a good day out and i will do it again.
Stuart we will sort out chips for your car.
Thanks for having us Alasdair

Always good to have a natter, put names to faces and learn a bit more about the cars, cheers all. :)

took a few photos on crappy phone cam, links should work hopefully;

Bet the servo motor is stuck, the one that should move the rod where the clip breaks - strip it down, spray will wd40, run the motor out of unit, lube properly, put it all back.

Sounds plausible Tony but there are a few strange things happening, or not as the case may be! The little sucky fan behind the glovebox does not run, tried swapping it out, no joy and also the demister button does nothing. Also the flap controls seem to do nothing. I was sure it was the control unit?? All fuses/relays fine?

Blower is fine at all 4 speeds, temp stuck on hot??

Stuart

It has seized on my lux and I think it may have had additional effects - but a long time ago so might be mis remembering - if one has failed then the others controlling flaps may have done. they are easy to take apart but there is also a testing procedure in the manuals somewhere apply 12V across one way then the other.
could also be soemthing else [&:]

Great turnout yesterday, 20 in total and 12 944's and 1 968. Plus 7 of Al's and Simkins turbo already at the garage.

Thanks to Al for the venue and his tech help and his right hand spannerman Stuart, and to Frenchy for the mobile kitchen and all who brought rolls, bacon, sausage and cakes and biscuits.

See you all soon, Alan.

Sounds like a regular then, the northern version of Rutland methinks.
Though the weather will have to be good for me to bring a car up !!

As others have already said , great day despite the weather and in my case good to meet people for the first time and put faces to names - I'm definitely up doing this on a regular basis . Myself and steven managed to both get lost within about 30 seconds of leaving alasdair's compound and had to resort to using my sat nav to find the main road . Aside from that the journey back to aberdeen seemed to go pretty quickly although i suspect this might have been because i kept nodding off behind the wheel [&:] . Now , can i interest anyone in a doughnut ?

Cameras at the ready chaps .

Thanks for organising a good day out Alan. Didn`t know where you were when we left.....Sky Sports Super Sunday was calling us.

I seem to recall that Bonnybridge was a centre for UFO sightings and also for winning lottery tickets being bought there. Euromillions at £85 million tonight.....been to Bonnybridge.......got some Euromillion tickets .......this time next week ............probably still be working !!!

Just spotted on the way out that there were some interesting VWs parked up in another unit. Don`t know how I didn`t spot them on the way in.

Thanks to the guys who organised the catering as well.

Even spotted a three wheeled Reliant van parked up too !!!! It looked "luvely jubbley". Bonnet de douche ..... as they say in Spain !!!!!

Bonjour,

Cameron.

Hi all, next Scottish meet will be Sunday November the 6th for all interested. I plan to do a demo about belt changing on a car so if anyone needs a set done, let me know. First come first served! Usual start time of 9am!
Alasdair

I should make it, have you booked the Cumbrian Catering team?

My belts aren't due until April, Is it easy to check their condition?

Alan.

I will be there and happy to help on other jobs whilst there.

For my s2, I'd like an oil change and a belt re-tensioning. I also have a very minor weep somewhere so would like to know the source. However, happy for you to prioritise and forget about these minor issues if others have more pressing jobs. Look forward to it - here's hoping the weather is better.

As an aside, I popped down to Peebles this morning to see some of the cars from R3 region who had an overnight stay in the area. Some nice Turbos and a beautiful white Turbo cab. May be worth a note in the R3 region site re this gathering. Alan, you are the communications director for this "meet", over to you! [:D]

I'll put it in my diary. I could do with my belt tension being checked also if time permits on the day and possibly still needing my front struts changed over unless I can get them done before.

As always I will be weilding spanners and kidding on I know what I'm doing!

The catering squad was a hit last time out and we would like to think they will re-assemble for us this time for more banter and car speak!

Stuart

I'm up for this !! I will bring bacon again if the chef is comming.Any other requests for food, sausages, burgers etc.

Just a waffffer thin mint for me please. Rory from TIPEC has a very overdue belt needing changed with tensioners so will be doing this and I am sure another few bits and pieces!
Alasdair

Well it really is weather dependent for Cumbria outside caterers, if i brought my Black car up would you be able to do belts Al, i can strip covers etc and basically get it ready, i have done belts before but would be easier on the lift, i have grown out of crawling around my back fighting with solid bolts.
Though i will want the front end paintwork covered up to avoid marks and scratches, anal i know but hey i am fuusy about my paint.
