The Balloon Tree Cafe, Stamford Bridge Rd, Gate Helmsley, York YO41 1NB

To: The Sidings, Station Ln, York YO30 1BT

The Balloon Tree has reserved us space in the conservatory section from 9.00am. A light breakfast may be wise to save room for lunch!

Please aim to be at The Sidings by 1pm, food will be served at 1.30pm

Everyone has paid a £5 deposit per person, the meal balance of £20 per person is payable on Saturday.

The drive is 56 miles, it should take one and three quarter hours. The latest time we would advise to start on the route, for safe completion would be 11.00am.

The route should work on Google maps, if you don't have mobile reception you may not be able to follow the route, it would be an idea to download the map to your device.

We drove the route on Wednesday and found no major problems on the road, there are a few places to take extra care which we have highlighted in the directions, it is not a fast route, instead a nice drive through some of the pretty villages close to York

If the village names are in bold, you are passing through them, the same with points of interest and businesses.

We have a sixty mile scenic drive planned for Saturday 24th May, starting from 9.00am at the Balloon Tree café in Gate Helmsley where we have been allocated seating in the conservatory area.

We head out, cross the river Derwent at Howsham Bridge, into the Howardian Hills, taking in many historic buildings, including Kirkham Priory, and Sherriff Hutton.

The drive should take just over a hour and three quarters.

We pass former RAF Station Linton-on-Ouse, on the way to The Sidings hotel and restaurant in Shipton by Beningbrough, our final destination.

Our hosts will provide a traditional Greek buffet dinner to enjoy in this exceptional location close to the East coast mainline, where train drivers frequently acknowledge diners should the weather be kind enough to enjoy the garden.

The meal at The Sidings will include Greek salad, breads, meats and vegetarian options plus delightful, sweet specialities and yoghurt, the cost for the meal is £25 per person.
