What do you not do ... when your new battery is continually running flat and you haven't time to find out why ?

Answer :.. you do not disconnect the battery and then shut the hatch ![:(] [][]

My hatch key has never worked since I bought the car 10 years ago and I've no idea why. Just never got around to investigating it. I imagine there must be something missing or broken as the key turns easily but no motor drive.
Perhaps once I have managed to persuade swmbo to climb into the back of the car and put the battery strap on the battery , I'll take a look before another 10 years pass.[;)][:D]

Don't forget the "live" post underneath the bonnet - jump leads to that and the chassis will enable you to use the button or hatch key as if you had a battery connected.

Thought that was only for use with a charger, not jump leads?

Not for starting an engine, the wire is no way big enough for that, but it will "jump" the electrical system sufficiently to open the boot hatch.

I should add the caveat that if the battery is disconnected, and the live battery lead is touching the chassis, there will be a shower of sparks somewhere - don't do it unless you know it is clear.

My experience of that problem OP is "buy a Nissan, Mazda, Toyota" they are the only really electrically bulletproof cars.

Every Porsche I have had is electrically rubbish from 914 to 996 inclusive.

But they have so many good points, and my allergy to Jap Plastic, indicators stalks on the wrong side, pedals with no feel, etc....naaaaah - cant adapt.

I know what you mean about indicators on the wrong side lol [:D] Drove Datsun 240Z's for many years . Took ages to get used to Porsche indicator/wipers

Well there was even more drama to come today.
Yesterday I replaced the starter motor because of an intermittant cranking fault.

Today I left the car miles from home ,for a couple of hours and when I came back it refused to turn over. No clicks nada .
No Mobile signal to call for help. Finally persuaded a passing tractor driver to help bump start it and got home.

Reckon it has to be an intermittant fault with the blasted immobiliser now not the starter although I'll check the live feed from the ignition switch . blasted cars[]

Every car or motorcycle with an imobiliser that I have owned has given trouble and I have had them all removed.
There was a time that an imobiliser made a big difference to to your insurance but I dont find that any more.
