Sat nave & phone connection

Hello Everyone, I have recently traded in a very pampered Boxster S for a Turbo S, absolutely loving the new car, every time I walk in the garage can't really believe it's mine. The sat nav has no discs, can someone advise me where the best place to buy new ones, & what new ones to buy.

Also it has a telephone connection, can anyone let me know how easy it is to get a blue tooth connection as opposed to inserting my sim card which is the technology built in it currently.


Always enjoy reading the forums, informative & interesting. My old car is on the Portiacraft website, the guards red one with 24,500 on the clock.

In terms of the Sat Nav discs, they are available from OPC or you can get unofficial copies from the net. There maybe someone on the forum reading this who could help.

With regards to bluetooth, you have many options. I have a PCM2 in my car and was lucky to have an intergrated bluetooth unit from Tooki already installed which allows the use of the exisitng kit in the car.

There are many aftermarket kits out there, ranging from visor clip-ons to intergrated units from Mowbridge. It really depends on your budget.

A lot of people I know have swaped their exisiting units for double din aftermarket systems which have satv nav and bluetooth already built in.

The good news is that there is a solution for whatever your budget is.

The choice is yours...............................

Sounds like you're in the same position as me. I've just got a 996T with PCM2, but am missing the UK nav disc and I want Bluetooth.

To keep it simple and inexpensive, I'm probably going to go for a Parrot Bluetooth kit, and more than likely the Parrot MKi9200 as it has a screen and can play music from my iPhone. I've got the Parrot CK3100 in my Audi, but it's a bit dated now.

As for nav CDs, I haven't got round to sorting that yet, so I'd be keen to see where you get it from.

Keep an eye on eBay for a Tooki kit, as they do appear from time to time. I got a ViseeO MOSTO kit on there last week, which is supposted to be an equivalent. Hopefully it will arrive tomorrow, in time to fit it this weekend, so I'll report back if it does. I paid £77, by the way.

I don't know how well the Parrot would integrate with PCM2, as the fibre optic connection to the amp complicates things.

Dont know whether you have got fixed up yet, but I have a surplus official Porsche CD for SatNav - Europe CD3 (08.2003) forPCM Version 3.0 or above.
Was supplied with my MY2004 C4S Cab, but I have now replaced it with a later version.

For those who asked, both on and off the forum, I fitted the ViseeO kit today.

Installation was easy once I had removed the driver's seat.. All I had to do was unplug the MOST cable from the existing telephone module, connect to a power supply and earth, and plug in the microphone and run the wire round the door seal to the top of the A pillar.

This is where I started fitting the unit, but once I got the seat back in I found that it just touched the underside, so I moved it to the back of the phone unit:

It took me a while to sync the phone book - it will only sync from phone memory, and I had all my contacts on the SIM. The phone side of things works really well, which was the main objective. Previously, I had a pay-and-go SIM card in the PCM and diverted to it when I was in the car. This device puts an end to that. The only thing I seem to have lost is the SMS text function, but to be honest I never used it, as it is far easier to text from my phone.

I haven't set it up to play digital music via A2DP, as my phone is old and clunky, so well pre-A2DP (but iPhone arrives next week, so I might give it a go). I'm not sure if and how you control the A2DP device from the PCM unit either, as the manual is a bit vague. The CD player in the head unit plays mp3 CDs, so it isn't a big issue at the moment. To use the A2DP function you have to disable the CD changer, but that wouldn't worry me.

Overall, I'm a happy chappy. At £77 it was an excellent buy, but I don't think I would have spent £300+ on a new one.

Interesting that you wouldn't buy a new one. Is there any other product out there that you know about?

If I hadn't got a used one, I would have lived with re-directing for now. If I was buying new, I would want something with iPod connectivity I could control from the head unit. Probably Dension or Mobridge. What I have is a half-way house, but for the price I paid, I can't complain. I might add a Dension at a later date to connect my iPod (if I can find a used one), but I'll only need the Gateway, not the Bluetooth add-on.
