S2 Sunroof!

Hello All,

Picked up an S2 almost an year ago. The sun roof never worked since i bought the car.

The sunroof motor seems to run when i drive the car (it looks like if i exceed ~4mph, the motor seems to run). But no movement in the sunroof.

So dismantled the roof lining and the boot carpet to inspect the motor.

In the boot, I could see the cable from the motor just loosely wound around the battery compartment.

I thought i will ask if anybody else have seen this, and is it normal..?
If it is not normal, what is the best way to wind it back in through the motor..?[8|]

Ofcourse the ultimate aim is to get the sunroof working properly...[]

Looking in the pelican technical help section, but any help here much appreciated..

Sounds like the plastic end that connects it to the motor has failed so you will need a new cable, I say new but i'm sure they NLA so look for someone breaking a car.

Not sure if this is the same problem that I had but sounds very similar. The plastic push fit connector between the motor drive and the sheath around the flexible drive cable falls apart so instead of pushing the roof up the cable just coils up in the boot. Happily the connector is just a standard push fir item you can get from a plumbing merchant. Just looking for the thread I posted. There you go https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.asp?m=827315

As said above although you might find the drive cable is now bent and distorted where its coiled up in the boot.

Hi There, Had a good look. Drive cable looked fine and i could manually lock the sunroof (just). The connector plug was damaged slightly. A new pneumatic straight plug on order.. Thanks 'marojojoem' Also the Sunroof plastic gear was shattered. So ordered couple of them too.. Will look further once i have the parts. Does any one has any tip to adjust the motor/clutch torque to ~6Nm..? A Small torque wrench..?

Don't worry about the figure; adjust the clutch until it's just gripping enough to make the mechanism work and leave it at that. Any tighter and you risk stripping the sunroof cogs (they are a sacrificial part). For some reason the clutch mechanisms seem to tighten up on hot days (expansion of some kind) and hence they are more prone to stripping the cogs then. Oli.

Ok. Just an update. if any one with similar issue can be benefit.

In my case pneumatic fitting and replacement gears was the parts i needed.

Next step was to understand the working of the sunroof.

Tip: Look at the pics/arrows on the sunroof operating button.![]

Ignition switch:

Acc position- to remove the the sunroof and refit and lock in place.

ON position - to raise and lower/lock the sunroof.

Fiddly bit was to adjust/align the sunroof runners. once it was done.

Vola! All good.

Glad that my micro switched were fine.
