S2 head

This is a really long shot, but I don't suppose anyone here happens to have an old spare S2 head they want to get rid of? Thought I'd ask here first before calling around all the usual breakers.

The plan, as it's looking increasingly certain that my head gasket is on its last legs, is to get a fresh top end built and then swap it straight over so the car is off the road for as little time as possible.

Being a bit of a technical dunce, are there any potential mods worth doing whilst it's in pieces? I'm hoping that refreshing the valve seats should give a bit more performance on a 150K engine, itself hopefully justification for having the work done, but I'd hate to miss some other tweak. The long term plan is still to go the supercharger route, so I can't really raise the compression. Any other ideas gratefully received!

Best regards,
Peter

You`d have to cut your new bonnet [:D][:D]

If you do ,do the SC route then ultimately youl be better off lowering the compresion...
Also a FULL rebuild b4 fitting it ,would be VERY prudent, as itl only put more stress on the "worn" out components....

PS its NOT a cheap route....[;)][;)]

Thanks for all the replies.

Paul, that certainly looks better than the 9ff bonnet tit [:D]

Steve, thanks for the heads up (dreadful pun intended [:)]), I'm keeping an eye on that auction.

Dave, the SC conversion is still a very long way off, and I really need to convince myself it'll be the right way to go. The (very loose) plan is to stick with low boost initially, circa 300bhp would be plenty on the existing engine. Once I'm bored of this the next level would be a major rebuild around a second engine. I'd love to think I could consider going a bit mad on this one: dry sump, possibly enlarging capacity, using stand alone and so on.

I wouldn't want to lower the compression too much as I value low down torque over outright power, although that would change if I took it off the road and used it only for trackdays. It's all a far off dream really, but having something to work towards keeps me going.

Best regards,
Peter

Peter, there's an S2 head advertised on the "for sale" forum.

I'm assuming that you've seen it, but I hadn't....[&:]

Thought I'd update this thread to say that I've bought the spare head mentioned above and am now considering my options for rebuilding it with some light mods

As it's loitering in the footwell at the moment I believe that makes my car a 3L 32 valve :ROFLMAO:

Peter,

I will be interested to know what you do to mod your new head[;)][;)], I had my 968 head polished[:(][:(] and flowed then re-mapped, which gave significant improvements. I have been contemplating the same on my S2 as well but it is not quite ready for an overhaul just yet.

Pete, isn't one of the advantages of a supercharger over a turbo charger that you can get boost at low revs due to the gearing of the compressor drive? I can't think of any other advantages of a supercharger over a turbo charger other than that. Therefore you can lower compression ratio without losing your low end torque and achieve more boost.

Pete.
If you Do go the SC route.. Defo reduce the compression ratio... It not only reduces the stress / temperature,on the engine / pistons / bores but itl also give you more power....[Eventually].. See the above graph....
Only thing is that youl need new pistons to do it properly....[;)][;)][;)][8|][8|][8|]

Really? Interesting.

I guess this will happen, but marks another stage in the aging of the 944. Any other interesting parts going begging?

Definitely! Would it be worth you putting a bit of a breakdown in the spares section? I'd b very interested to see what you've got going.
