the bolts on my wheels have gone rusty looking, saw some stainless steel covers when i was at porsche in the park but they wanted £40 the set. is there a cheaper alternative?

Helen,

This was a common problem and I recall that some owners had their wheel bolts replaced under warranty so you should enquire with your OPC even if your warranty has expired. Good luck.

Mine went really rusty in the first 9 months or so from new - Merlin (or rather Porsche Centre Nottingham now!) replaced them all at the first service under warranty. They also admitted it was a well known problem.

I think the problem is the bolts are just made from mild steel, without any type of protective coating like zinc or chrome, so will always rust (in this country anyway)[&o].
Helen, do the stainless covers do the locking wheel bolt as well? I' ve just sprayed mine with silver Hammerite.

Can you still get the wheel brace over the nut ok, and does the paint not get scratched?

Methinks my rusty nuts are in for a treat [:D]

The nut cover set don' t seem to include ones to go on the locking nuts. didn' t buy these as £40 seems an awful lot to me.it' s also been pointed out to me that they are also very shinny, so im not sure they would look right with my alloys wheels.

I like the idea of painting, chap on .boXa net. posted me a photo of the bolts on his car that were painted a while ago, they look as good as new. he also that the paint does chip when you use the bolts(take wheels off/on)but you just have to give them a touch up with paint.

I' m confused - you should have alloy wheelnuts on the 944 - probably painted black. They should not be rusty...

You are right of course [] but rusty nuts has a much better ring than chipped and corroded nuts [:D]
