I put the 220 Turbo away in the garage last week after a short run to warm it up and use the brakes everything fine, pulled it out of the garage today and let it warm up ticking over. I went to drive off and it hesitated and went "flat"
Nothing obvious i have had the AFM off to change along with a new temp sensor this afternoon, the engine when ticking over is fine on slight throttle it cycles between 850 and 1500 RPM in a rythmic cycle.
I have also noticed that the throttle position sensor does not have a "click" when moving from the rest position.
At present i suspect the fuel pressure regulator which i will change tomorrow, anyone else had this problem.
I will be doing some comparisons with the 250 tomorrow (garages in different locations)
 
As many people will testify I am far from the greatest mechanic in the world, so take this with a pinch of salt - but, I have to say, if I could not hear the TPS switch coming off and on idle, and the idle is uneven, the TPS, rather than the FPR, is the first thing I would suspect.
 
Have to say mate I am with lowtimer on this one. It's easy to test. With the engine runninig remove the plug from the TPS and with a paper clip or similar short out pins 4 and 6 on the plug you have removed. This will simulate the throttle switch being closed. If the car returns to normal idle - hey presto.
 
Peeps, car is ticking over fine when off throttle, but a slight throttle held steady and the revs fall and rise on their own between 900/1500, so the TPS may be telling the ECU that it is at tickover/ rest but on the next scan sees the throttle part open because the TPS switch has not activated it is then back to tickover ?
 
That's the sort of possibility that seems logical to me. Worth investigating the TPS anyway, I'm sure. It might just be stuck.
 
Cheers Homesea, i have it down to the TPS (Throttle Position Switch) as an air leak would see revs rising and falling at tickover, this happens on part throttle and is fine on tickover, Sulzeruk should be sorting a replacement TPS, i will keep ya all posted.
 
Interesting - what was your logic in thinking it was a TPS? (I'm not disagreeing, just curious).

As a point of reference, in all my experience of automotive diagnostics it is ALWAYS worth returning a car to 'base condition' as a first step when odd problems occur. So change the spark plugs, check carefully (and change if necessary) the ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm, clean the spark plug apertures (space around them where grot builds up) very carefully and ensure there is a good feed to the coil. These, along with the temperature sensor (and lambda sensor on modern cars) are the most common culprits for bad running, and either cleaning or changing them solves 90% of all problems.

but seriously, there are two routes that spring to mind, one is the technical analysis, the other is these cars don't thrive on 300 miles per annum, so take it out and remind the cv joints what it is like to transmit 220 horses relentlessly for half an hour.

you have changed the afm, which was my initial thought, but my next is the ISV. you can eliminate it by clamping off the hose to it which is an easy one to try.

It was let loose only the weekend beforehand to give it a run and the brakes some use (don't tell Copperman it is SORN[;)] i was bringing it up to the house to get it ready for tax next month, when it will get regular use, i have promised myself to get the cars out and about more during this summer though the 220 will be off to LM Classic which should see it warmed up thoroughly.

As previously posted TPS has no audiable click so this is my starter, of course i will let you know the outcome.

If fine and dandy it will get an "Italian tune up" only when warmed through though [8|]

I will ignore your first paragragh [:D]
