RS Touring

Does anyone on here own an RS Touring ?

I am keen to move my car closer to the spirit of that car, as a daily / regular drive GT but with a taught road action and track capability....the car is much more capable than I so don't worry that I am not creating a Lightweight spec. car

Keen to get factory details on the car and how I can move towards it. Already have rear centre section, suspension but not monoballs etc.

Ian

I have always liked the reclining leather seats in the Touring .... door cards are as C2 as is the rest with no rear seats weighs exactly same as C2 with same wiring loom underseal, electric roof an option .... there are several active register members here who will no doubt post some pics ....

Thanks, and yes the Sports Seats are excellent - especially the heated drivers one :)

Will wait for Touring owners to chip in with info / pictures etc.

Ian,

For what it is worth, I have the 964 service manuals as well as the supplement book for the 964 RS with pictures et, wehich might be really usefull. Furthermore, Tony Carey wrote a fabulous book on the 964Rs, which I think will come handy in your quest. I can borrow you the service manuals etc at the impact bumper meet if that is any use.

Best regards,

Bert

Thanks Bert - yes I hope to be at the next IB meeting and a look at those would be good - are they the Porsche Manuals or a Bentley Publishing type equivalent ? I will look out for Tony's book on the other thread I have seen for it.

Ian

I have (probably the same as Bert's) Service Information Technik '92 911 Carrera RS available as a 41 page PDF which I received from Porsche. It covers the Basic and Touring models with comparisons with the Sports (NGT) and details all the differences/specifications. It's 4.3Mb but I'm happy to email if you send me an email address via my profile.

Thank you David,

I had already seen that advert and downloaded the images :)

However, it doesn't show the rear seat delete option and the carpet arrangement. I see it retains the side plastic sections below the side windows, but cannot see the parcel shelf etc. Does it retain speakers for the radio back there ? That is one area I would like more detail on.

I also see that it has brake cooling ducts rather than fog lights or fog light covers - was this standard, or could you have optional front fogs - I will keep mine as again I want a RS Touring homage that is a daily / regular driver and those are a practical thing to keep.

I see you are in Worcestershire - I am in Warwickshire....I used to work for Misys on Buckholt Drive in Worcester. Perhaps we will meet up at some point.

Hi Ian,

I have the pics you need, I took them for a guy in Sweden who was creating a Touring Rep on Rennlist. It was on the 964 Forum and search RS Touring, it may help you. The seatbelts were fitted by dealer (not an option from factory).

Great - thank you.

Interesting back panel - do you have a picture of the removed seat base - is it just a piece of carpet ?

Ian

Simon,

Found you on Rennlist and the RS Touring clone that Felix is doing.

Thank you for the info on the seat belts - I will keep my standard black ones. Is the Sport Seat the same as stock bar the colour coded panels ?

Do you have details of the factory options that were available on the Touring - I saw a post that indicated the Lightweight Recaro seat was an option - I like those (original are pricey but Recaro Pole Position are OK) and I believe they would sit me lower in the car.....I need this as at 6' 3" I find getting a helmet on for track days a problem in the standard seat even set to its lowets setting.

Ian

I spoke with a ex Porsche owner who ordered a 964RS Touring new from the dealer. He stated that that although there was an option list others could be requested in addition as a Dealer Request.
I have the original invoice on my car and it has Sunroof and Headlamp Washer as additions. Issue 61 of Total 911 had a comparison article on Touring v Lightweight (last year)
Agreed the Pole position will give better support and similiar feel to the original seats and are considerably lower.

Ian

given that there are so few 64RS Tourings defining standard is actually quite difficult, several of the 7 UK cars have different specs.

My car for instance has the following options:

windscreen top tint
sunroof
headlamp washers
Blaupunkt Symphony radio

Some of the other Tourings have no sunroof, and I believe 1 of the 7 has factory air con

I was not aware that the Recaro hard back seats were an option on the Touring, although anything is possible - if the customer is willing to pay Porsche will probably fit it.....

Other pointers
There are no rear seats, it is just a piece of carpet, although there is the 'standard' Carrera 2/4 parcel shelf with two speakers.
Brake ducts are not a factory fit, the Touring and Lightweight both had blank lenses as standard - not actual fog lamps
Front windows are electric and are therefore thicker glass than the glass used on the Lightweight which has manual window winders
Door cards are the standard C2/C4 items
Tourings have a larger battery the the Lightweight and no battery cu-off switch, larger C2/C4 windscreen washer bottle, and a fully carpeted boot

HTH

David

They're all different though- mine has the air con, but no sunroof or headlamp washers. It does have a battery cut off switch.

the Touring and Lightweight both had blank lenses as standard

Anybody got these blanks they would like to part company with -could exchange for air ducts!!!

They are all so unique, will be worth so much more than the common examples of RS's.
Purely because they are all unique!

Good replies - thank you. Kylie over Susan------interesting comparison :)

So I could create my homage in the delight that whatever I do will be unique and therefore OK.

David - rear seat delete - does anyone have a photo over the carpet fitted where the seat bases were ?

Are the rear seat belt receivers simply removed and the mounting tabs covered by the plastic screw in inserts - a la Carrera RS ?

The parcel shelf has the twin speakers - what about the seat belt holders that have holes in the shelf - is the shelf different or just bare of belts ?

I will keep the fog light - I guess the RS Touring had no front fog switch - just a hole or a different dash section ?

Too many questions - sorry.

Ian
