RS/RSR Chassis numbers

Gentlemen,
A mate of mine is in the final stages of pulling the trigger on joining the 964 lightweight party... but would like to check a couple of chassis numbers if anyone knows what the form is?

First car is supposedly a 964 RS clubsport, chassis number is in the range 96 ZNS 499 001-099 which seems to line up with what he can find written about these on the net?

Second car is supposedly one of the 7 * 964 RS 3.8 widebodies built in clubsport spec # 96 ZPS 497 112
Now that looks like a RS 3.8 chassis number to me ok, anybody know the numbers ascribed to the clubsport versions built at all?

Cheers in advance for your help.

The 1992 Carrera RS Basic and M002 Touring cars have VIN numbers with a 9 series thirteenth digit (9= Carrera RS) reserved for them in the range: WPOZZZ96ZNS4 9 0001 to 2500.

The 1992 M003 Competition versions have VIN numbers with 99 as the thirteenth and fourteenth digits reserved for them in the range: WPOZZZ96ZNS4 99 001 to 300

The 1992 M001 Carrera Cup racing cars built have VIN numbers with a 9 as thirteenth digit and an 8 as the fourteenth digit reserved for them in the range: WPOZZZ96ZNS4 98 001 to 150.

thanks Jason, that confirms what we thought on the first car: seems like it's a real clubsport... now anyone any ideas about the 3.8RS and in particular the 7 clubsport versions?
Cheers

Paul, stop messing with this "for a mate" thing,,, clearly you have finally taken notice of Des's ramblings and are now buying an aircooled RS [:D]

Hopefully Paul Mc will see this as I am sure he will know about the 7 x CS.

Other than that it may be worth asking the question on the 993RS forum as there may well be someone who definitely knows about these chassis numbers [;)]

964 RS 3.8 Chassis numbers as I have them.........

All year 1993 P build program...

911 Carrera RSR 3.8 96PS 49 6001 - 6104

911 Carrera RS 3.8 96PS 49 7001 - 7129

Thanks dessie, I knew you would have it beside your bed !!
Not sure what that Z is all about then, will have to check he took the numbers down correctly

Paul ......... Onwards and upwards mate never back to the cortina days [:D]

I believe the Z is meant to be there, according to this...

http://www.performance2and4.co.uk/chassisnumbers.htm

I'm guessing your "friends"[:D][:D] complete chassis number is probably WPOZZZ96ZPS497112

So...

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 - WPO denotes International Porsche Code

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 - ZZZ fill-in characters for Europe and RoW

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 - 7th, 8th, 12th characters are the model = 964

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 - 10th digit is model year... P=1993

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 = 11th digit is place of manufacture... S = Stuttgart

WPOZZZ96ZPS497112 - 13th digit onwards is production number

Simple really... in a kind of very complicated, but very efficient Deutsche way.

Correct Grasshopper.....there should be the obligatory Z, I would think the Clubsport is among the RS numbers very very rare car, there were some road legal RSR made too! These cars are making BIG, BIG BIG BIG MONEY £100,000+++ as any unususal sought after RS......

Hi guys,
I am Pauls mystery friend and now I'm a paid up member of PCGB I can speak for myself!
I have purchased a car purporting to be a 964 RS Clubsport so many thanks for your advice here, the car is very very interesting.... totally unique... but the only thing certain right now is that it's not on it's original chassis number or engine...
I've not even seen the thing yet, so will post more details once I take delivery (hopefully at the end of the month) and the jury can decide if I'm worthy of register membership!
Won't be able to make the Silverstone celebrations as the car will be based in the South of France... first run out therefore should hopefully be the Ricard days with Porsche Club France.... when I'm optimistic Paul will fly down and take a ride to understand why air is better than water ;-)
Thanks again
Rick

3.6 Clubsport or widebody 3.8......interesting particularly if it's widebody 3.8 as these are the most copied from original 3.3 Turbo Shells.....not saying it's not original need to know spec chassis numbers etc etc, anyway all the best, can you post some pictures?

As soon as I see it and take some of my own Des. Will post the whole story here that I've been told with any evidence I can gather myself and use the collective knowledge of the forum to decide what we think it is I've bought!
Cheers
Rick

Nope Vic...different car.... coming from points further north... might have been white once, although officially it might have been red once... but it's neither now.

Nothing ulterior was in Mougins very briefly last summer saw it for sale then and picked up some French mag at an airpotrt recently and was still for sale same place ........................good luck with the purchase

Well Melvin/Des I've sent you an application for the register with the story of this car on it... I'll post it here once I've seen all the appropriate paperwork... certainly quite a story!
Cheers
Rick

Not got your e-mail, guessing it's a Yellow car now me thinks.....look forward to the story could it be a "Press Car" thus pre-production with a C2 chassis number...I can't wait so many stories out there.....

No this is a real STORY Des ................ You will have hours of fun with the research on this one [:D]

Got it, started life as a C4, Tiptronic Cabrriolet 997 in coolbolok blue, but the owner wanted a bit more involvement, so installed a 60" Plasma screen with infra red headrests and fitted a sports exhaust through an OPC, but they got a bit confused with the after market appliance instruction book sent by Stuttgart and to his disgust found a new pin 964 3.8 RSR in full Spa winning livery, with the race 375BHP tune....[:D]

Cripes that yellow ones a mess!
Nope... story should be in the inbox... will go on general release when I've got the car/ seen the docs for myself... but rest assured, not got any water cooling in it anywhere! (sorry Paul, couldn't resist...) No plasma screens either I hope!
