rs rear bumper to fit

Hi guys

I need help!!!!!!!!1

I have just had my RS rear bumper painted and am ready to fit it.

I have been advised to remove the bumper and impact bar at the same time, then seperate after.

Has anyone got an idiots guide to doing this with plenty of photos.

I know where the supports are on the corners, it is mainly the location of the other bolts that I need help with.

Hi Lee, if you PM your email address I'll send you a PDF of the 964 Workshop Manual body section. p133 onwards has detailed diagram and full procedure for removing and reinstalling rear bumper on a 964.

Sent to you via 'MailBigFile' as too hefty for email system. Let me know if it comes through okay.

Hi Rich

How did you get on Lee? I know that if fitting an RS centre section (I think that's what you were doing?) then you may/will need to knock off the 4 plastic blocks that are riveted on to the ally bumper bar otherwise it won't fit.

I think I have some pics of mine somewhere showing this as I'm coming to near the end of a major resto and repaint at the moment...

Cheers

Hi there

Not had chance to have a go yet - the weather has been terrible, not stopped raining for over a week.

Hopefully the sun will come out this weekend for the bank holiday. I have 4 days off so hopefully I will get it done then. Fingers crossed.

I will post some pics when complete as I have also added a few other new bits.

George - no went for an after market one that I got off a guy on ebay.

1st stage completed today- I managed to get the bumper off without taking the impact bar off.
It didn't take that long, but it took me ages to split the bumper into three, two bolts were locked solid.

Anyway next stage is to drill all the rivets out so that I can put the strengtheners on to the RS centre piece and the new near side piece with an exhaust cut out (for dual exhaust)

I will then remove the exaust to make the necessary changes.

Then I need to cut down the black plastice pieces on the impact bar.

Finally I need to lengthen the wiring for the number plate lights before putting it all back together. Hopefully ready for Newby Hall next Sunday

Just a quick update.

Football match, the pub and rain spoilt my plans to reinstall over the weekend.

Therefore I spent yesterday afternoon, sorting the wiring and putting the bumper together on the dining room table (wife was not happy)

It is now ready to go on tonight when i get home....hope the rain holds off

Hi guys

No I got it on just in time for Newby Hall.

It was a real pain, probably due to the fact that the rs bumper piece and near side corner (with cut out for dual pipe) were replicas.

With a bit of gentle persuasion I got them on and they look amazing. Totally transformed the rear of the car.

The only problem is that the rear towing hole does not line up with the hole on the bumper piece. (not really bothered about this top be honest)

Just need to get the exhaust sorted next.

Hi guys

Ive have a a floppy bumper on the drivers side and have scoured the PET and ordered what i think are the correct brackets etc from OPC Bournemouth (Same price as Porschapart and Jasmine)

Can I get a copy of the removal and refit process please as it doesn't seem that obvious.

Cheers
Scott

Both sides of the metal impact bar had sheared, new bar cost £480

Aerospace engineer welded new brackets £45

All now back in place and no saggy bumper..result
