Roof Transport System or Roof Rack ?

Guest

New member
I' ve just had my 993 serviced and while at the dealer thought I' d price up a roof rack/cycle carrier ... but at £500+ I think I' ll give it a miss.

Surely there' s got to be an alternative - Or has anyone got an official Porsche 911 roof rack that they' d like to sell to a happy home?

Thanks,
Peter

Peter,

Could be your lucky day.

A friend of mine has one for sale, see note from him below.

I purchased the roof transport system for my 993 turbo 4 last year. Used it once on a trip to Europe. I have now sold the car so it is surpless to requirements.

It consists of two rails that go across the cars width that attach to the
roof gulleys. Attached to that are components such as ski rack, board rack, cycle rack,
etc. It is called the Porsche Roof Component System. It is genuine Porsche
see part numbers below. It is lockable of course.

The roof bars are part number 993 801 05500
The ski/board clamps are part number 004 044 000 04

It hold 4 sets of skis or 2 snow boards or combinations there of.

If you are interested make me an offer.
It is in mint condition and complete.
Pictures can be supplied if required.

Best regards
Tony

Peter,

Get on to the Thules website, they have all the bars that you need and necessary accessories... because the 993 (like all pre996 911s) has "gutter rails"...

Basically u can put a box, bike, surf board or even skies on your car... Phil Raby has done this on his 964 in 911&PorscheWorld mag...

good luck

Cough, splutter, gaspppp... Roof racks!!!, Bike racks!!!!!

Good grief they'll be talking family cars and caravans and trailers next.... or even (ha!) one of those ugly great truck things that all the gypsies drive and call it something stupid like Mustard or or er Pepper or Canine or something, ooh er, oh..... they have!

You'd be better off buying a Porsche with two boots. One in the front (just like a 996) and a smaller one where the engine used to be after someone in Stuttgart realised that moving it forwards of the rear axle was a good idea !

Someday, all Porsches will be made this way......

cheers

Moving it forwards - heresy ! It'll never catch on ! (and you loose a lot of very useful space inside the car)

I'm surprised to see this old thread still kicking around on the board - but as it is, I may as well include a picture of my 993 with new 'go-slower' attachment.

Windnoise is now measured on a new scale....

Peter.
