Yep, it's confusing. The 996 GT3 Carrera cup series was the first series where both national and Super cup championships shared the same essential base car. With the 993, the Supercup series ran cars which we now know as 'Cup' cars. The National Cup series in the UK was run by Porsche Club UK Motorsport to very strict regs meant to reduce running budgets compared to Supercup. It was supported by top teams and drivers at the time and subsiquently cars were still run with relatively high budgets. Cars were based on nearly new C2's (my car was about 6 months old as a road car when it was built up as a race car) and as you can imagine, building a race car from a nearly new road car was not an inexpensive excersise. Probably not a lot chaper than buying a Super Cup car. Consiquently, cars were very well built and prepped. The series was hard fought but When the GT3 Carrera cup was introduced the 993 cars were rendered useless for the series. Many of the 993 race cars were raced in the Porsche Open series and Brit car etc.. As they passed lower and lower down the formulae, most were run on tighter and tigher budgets. This was compounded by them suffering more and more damage over time. Whilst most remaining have very interesting histories, most are very worn and battle scarred. When we acid dipped mine, We found it needed, two rear quarter pannels, front wings, new sills and a new roof. Being RHD, I decided to build my car to a race spec CS which made sense as these were made in RHD. There arn't many of these cars about these days for reasons mentioned earlier but if you can get your hands on a good one, it will certainly have a propper race provinence and as such much more viable as a purchase than a stripped out track car but as I said before, buying one is a mine field.
Thanks Steve, I hadnt managed to work that out. So at the time the Carrera Cup (international series) was run for Cup cars as built by porsche, but the UK national Cup series was from converted road cars. That certainly makes sense with what I've seen for cars on sale.
I'm sure its hard to buy decent cars, and I fully get the less money spent on them as time goes by. Like we are seeing on 996 race cars now. Out of interest where do you intend to race yours? Do you have a series in mind?

So this 993C2 Race Car may be an ex-UK Cup Car giving it provenance?

My plan is to start looking this year for a viable series. I have shaken the car down on cups and it had good pace. I will get out on a MSA test day early in the spring on slicks and see where the times are. I am expecting to be on 993 super cup pace. Want to race it in a proper series but I may struggle. Don't want a panel bashing championship.
As opposed to factory Cup which would make it worth treble .... however some provenance here as a "Cup Car" all be it a UK Cup with factory recognition and built at the time to whatever UK Cup Spec?
Good Luck with the Racing Steve .... fear finding a no contact series might be like finding a virgin in the bordello!

I think you probably have about the best car possible for that as GT3's and turbos are not allowed.
I heard recently Steph Eacock is the series coordinator so another EMC family connection.
You seem to have the perfect car Steve ...... I would think any 964/993 RS or equivlant ... Hugh and Minty comes to mind!

Interesting. Will have a look at the regs. May well enter a few rounds.
Have you considered AMOC Intermarque? There are some really expensive cars that race happily in that. And grids appear a bit better again. I watched a couple of rounds last year and was impressed with the driving standards at the front, and the caution at the rear of the grid. CSCC future classics / DM I guess is the other option, keen to see how that progresses. The Euro series in the 964RS forum looked great too.
Keen to see what you get up to Steve, keep us all posted. Also keen to see the times from early test. Minty will see track action again Des, but I too dont want to swap paint, and I've got another project right now. Oh and the small point of I still havent really worked out how to drive the car yet, but plenty of time for that.

looked at the IMOC series. That was the only real option as the car isn't yet old enough to race in anything other than GT90's and that is really for bigger GT cars. I can see quite a few of the 968 and 964 Porsche club boys going for the new championship.

Ha ha! Well I have quite a soft spot for my 993 and I would much prefer it to mix in the pipe and slipper brigade than my fellow lunatic cup drivers!!

I went along to watch the CSCC for the first time at the end of season meet at Donington (I was helping out a friend racing in that round). A great bunch of people in the paddock and very clean but competitive racing from what I saw. The Deutsche Marques series should be a nice addition to their meets especially if plenty of Porsches get involved [
]Yep I checked out GT90s, and its been discussed on here. Not what I was looking for. Its a bit tricky now, but I think it will only get better. I'll continue to race other things until the series come to us I think. Although I do think AMOC is seriously worth some investigation, certainly 964s have been raced successfully in the past.

CSCC run nice races with little contact that i saw from my one season in it,only had a small tap at the rear going into the hairpin at Mallory,a nice place to race a more pampered race car.I had alot of fun last season.Steve,you would do brilliantly in the new series, I would come to watch that,will probably enter a race or two myself.The pitstops make it interesting!There is a Stand at the Autosport show if you want to talk to them.

Yup,did every single race including Spa and Brands Hatch inter series races,was my first year of racing so I started with a big yellow cross....was a bit exciting on the first grid I can tell u!Everyone was warming tyres up and I just copied what they did!,over the whole season I did ok and got the series winner trophy thanks to a couple of overall wins and podiums and class positions.Love my old turbo race car, so fond of it.
Like I said for nice friendly but gently competitive racing it's a good option.There where some expensive cars out this season big Astons,expensive 911s including a real 73rs,964s of course which are quite expensive,so these people are confident in the quality and standards on track.The new Porsche/German car series run by EMC will no doubt be more of the same.
