Rims for winter tyres

I saw a long range weather forecast yesterday that claims we are in for another winter almost as bad as last year.

I'd like to get a spare set of rims and put winter tyres on them.

Genuine Porsche rims are horrendously expensive.

What is actually wrong, if anything, with these rims: http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_mono_block_solid_wheels.html. My OPC said that they are usually not well made and can be dangerous - well they would say that anyway.

Has anyone got any experience of buying and using them or actually had any first hand experience of them going 'wrong'?

You might find these two reports from Min interesting:

No doubt he'll be along soon, but I think he was very pleased with the package from Design911.

im interessed to know how a standard 2 wheel drive carrera is like.

edit: i'd also like to see the 911 with buggy to show that it can be a family car lol.

I got the winter wheel package from Design 911 and the quality of the wheels weren't bad at all. They are made in Italy but no brand was printed on the rim. They are quite a bit heavier than the original hollow spokes and affected the secondary ride a little. They look like the original turbo wheel which is what I wanted. It's neary time to put them back on. They made such a difference not just on snowy roads by also icy ungritted ones. Have cold weather tyres on all the cars now.

Andrew, it's worth seeing if you can get a set of Carerra 4 (not S) standard 18" rims from someone who has upgraded as these are the right offsets for the Turbo with winter tyres. I was fortunate to get a set of these for my car and I use it daily, whatever the weather!
