Hi,
I have an issue with my diff/transmission.
I noticed a very faint whistling sound (like a final spin cycle on a washing machine) on acceleration (and reverse). The garage opened up the transmission and the transmission oil was apparently very smelly (of gas)/ burnt out and the bearings weren't the best on the diff. The oil was replaced and additive added and the car has come back with a much louder whistling sound... Apparently the diff will eventually need replaced (and this cant be done individually, has to be with the transmission). Which I'm happy to do. The problem I have is that the garage owner told me the outcome isn't guaranteed - that the transmission is a sensitive beast and may not be like it was before.
I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and what the outcome was. Is replacing with a second hand transmission workable? I'd really appreciate any advice.
Many thanks for reading.
