Replacing front badge

What is the best way to remove the front Porsche crest badge.

I can see two fixings when looking from underneath, is this all that holds it in place or do I need to remove the boot catch to access additional fasteners. I'm reluctant to move the catch if I don't need to.

Any tips most welcome

It's only the two fixings that keep it in place. From memory I believe they are speednuts - they screw on to a non-threaded post which is part of the badge. I think the later cars just have a friction held push fit but the 993 is the same as the 964 with the speednuts I think.

I'll tell you now, before you ask, that putting the new one one is an absolute pig of a job. The problem is that you can't get the badge to stay in place within the gasket for long enough to get the fixings attached. I remember when we put the new badge on mine after the respray and it must have taken close to half an hour to get that bu**er on!!!

If you are buying a new badge make sure you get the right one. I think most of the ones available these days are the correct ones with the "P O R S C H E" in black. I know the early 964s had the name in gold bu that stopped around 1993.

Hi,
Yes its 2 nuts only, 10mm socket, and the gasket is a pig to get right!
For aftermarket ones sometimes if you warm the gasket up in hot water its goes better but I think if you purchase a proper Porsche one they fit better.
Had to gently ease my one out, with a flat plastic spoon end, once I had it on and loosely bolted.
