Replacement Rear Discs

Dilemma: I have always recommended Sebro, and I can get a pair of Sebro 944 Turbo rear discs delivered for £106, but I can get a similar pair of Pagid discs delivered for £87!

Which do I choose? No pressure but I have to order before 16:00...
 
I have always used pagids and have just fitted new ones all round. That's a good price as well, I paid £220 inc vat for 4 albeit M030 size front discs. Can't fault the performance although I did warp a rear one within a year or so last time round. I dare say that could happen to any disc though.

For a few quid I'd go with Sebro just because they are known. On the other hand, you can be our test bed... I stuck Pagid discs & pads on our A2 but I can't say that it ever does any serious braking

btw Simon I've just found out you can get PF 08 compound for S2 and turbo calipers (not 030) - supposed to be less aggressive on discs and less dusty than 97's. IRO £120 per set
 
Thanks Ed. I though that Id had CL pads on my series one car, but looking back I see that they were PF. IIRC they werent listed for the ATE calipered 944 but they were for the 924 Turbo and 924S. Are the 08s less likely to damage my wheels too? Ive got a reallt pretty set of Compomotive three piece wheels in Cups sizes and the polished rims have been savaged by the dust.

With regards to discs, dont Zimmerman have a poor reputation for corroding bells? Also, every story about vibration seems to invloves new Zimmerman dics and S2s... [:D]
 
Zimmerman was my attempt at a joke...

I wouldn't hold out too much hope about PF 08 and dust - anything should be better than 97's but most race pads are pretty nasty & leave deposits on wheels & paintwork. Nothing a good clay bar won't get of though.
 
I thought that you were in possession of new information! It was the wink that fooled me. [:D] Ive missed the dealine but I think that I will go for the Pagid discs, as Stuart has already taken point and they appear to be satisfactory.

I just have to decide what to do with the front now. On the one hand I know very well that the standard Brembos will be more than adequate with a little less weight, ducts and a suitable braking style (lots, very late), but Im tempted by larger calipers, even though I know better. Theyre shiny-shiny.

Don't get into that until there's nothing else left on the car to do...

I'm thinking of coining Hodgson's law of old Porsches - every time you spend money on shiny bits you don't really need, something else will always break and cost you double what you've just spent [:D]

The standard brakes are great - with the right setup - although the m030's are even better. If you're coming to bedford, some & see how good mine is [:D]
 
I fitted Pagid discs and Mintex pads on the front of my S2 last year and they have behaved fine I think froom memory the discs and pads were around £140 inc the Eurocarparts 30% discount that was on at the time.

Shiny is alluring, but you need to choose them because they do the job better. If they don't do the job better then don't choose them ...

Whatever happened to Zimmerman disks? I haven't heard of them for three or four years, although back then everyone seemed to be selling them.

They went rusty - and sebro cam along at a similar price but better quality
 
"Hodgsons Law of old Porsches" very true [:D] trouble is i am also a sucker for "Shiny Shiny"
