Replacement of Radiator Cooling Fan & Central Locking Problem

Hi Guys,

I am into week 3 of Porsche 944S2 Cab ownership and I can't help smiling every time I drive the car, however, there are a few problems below which I would not mind some advice on.

Has anyone had an experience of replacing one the radiator cooling fans on a 944S2, I think it needs replacing as the fuse on Cooling Fan 1 blows every time I replace it and the fan can only just be turned by hand. Do you know if you have to take the radiator out to get at it as access seems to be quite restricted?

Second issue I seem to be having is on the central locking, all doors unlock with the key and you can hear a motor when you turn the key but only one door unlocks and when you hit the central locking button from within the cabin again you hear the motor but none of doors lock or unlock? What parts do you think I will need before taking it all apart?

Since to take the radiator out you have to take the fan pack off, no, you don't have to take the rad out to get the fans out! There are six screws, 10mm AF, disconnect the electrical connectors, and it drops down and out - oh - have to take undertray off!

I think Tref has covered it all off but:

Jack the car up high, assuming you're work in the garage/ driveway.

Remove both undertrays, including the batwing that fits into the front PU - if this hasn't been off for a while you may find many of the nuts/bolts that link it to the underside of the front wings are rusted...... Gd luck.

Tref is right, 6 x 10mm head screws that hold the fan unit on to the radiator. It's a tight squeeze but you should be able to remove all of them and pull the unit back and down and out of the car.

I only know this, because I had to do the reverse when reinstalling the fans after the engine rebuild.....

Once, you get the unit out with the two fans and shroud, you can remove the non-functioning fan from the shroud and replace it.

A thought for you, the twin fan set up on the Turbo's and S2's is (given the 20yr design) very efficient, however, fan design has moved forward a lot and if you can get a proprietary replacement fan to fit the unit it will increase your cooling and significantly reduce the eletrical load on the alternator ?
