Removing the washer tank - the most narly job on a 944 ?

Afternoon all !

With lockdown etc, I decided to tackle a few jobs on th Turbo S, including a front main seal oil change- got that all done (took several weeks inc. waiting for parts) - 10 mile run, car back in the garage. Then the radiator sprung a leak - traced it to the drain plug which had become a two piece item.

Several weeks later, new plug fitted and coolant bled and sorted.

Right, I must fix the leaking washer tank/ crappy jets - new NS jet fitted. Traced the leak to the Headlight washer pump - need to get the tank out - OMG - took me 4+ hours all in to remove it, sort it and refit it.....

This included removing the headlamp motor - what a PITA job that was. Anyhow, car now has two working washer jets and a tank that doesnt empty itself on the driveway.

Haha I have just done this whilst doing my belts and water pump mate. You should have asked. It's much easier if you take the headlamp motor and coil out :ROFLMAO:

Yes it took me a while to work out the " you need to remove the headlight motor " bit, managed to get away without removing the coil though

I think it actually more difficult from underneath because there is a bulkhead in the way. Once you actually know the technique, as with everything it’s not so hard.

Thankfully I didn't have to remove the tank in the end,I just went by some online guides. Don't know if the tank shape changed when the pumps were mounted down low either?

I can think of worse Christopher...
Tank out is a bit fiddly (Ok only done it on an S2 but is similar). Mine came out the top way - it's a big tank isn't it!

Turbo engine mounts gave me a lot of grief - one of those jobs where several times I felt it was never going to work. I would have been much better off dropping the subframe.
Retrieving a stray hex bit from the S2 clutch bellhousing wasn't much fun either...
Parking brake shoes are a minor job but always fiddly & frustrating..

Any job on a turbo always seemed to start with removing the intercooler pipes and / or trays, & easy to forget to tighten the jubilee clips as the final job..
