Apologies in advance for my complete lack of mechanical interpretation.
1. Recently a noise has arisen on my 3.2. When I turn the key to the position before ignition (i.e. when the warning lights are on) a noise that sounds like a fan starts up. It stops for a split second when the engine fires up, but then starts again immediately. It then continues for at least 10 mins (or until the engine warms up). It sounds like it's coming from an area behind the air vent to the right of the steering wheel. There's no noticeable affect on performance (yet !!), but just a very annoying noise. Advice welcome.
2. Getting a bit of rust around the headlights. Are the rims (bezels ??) replaceable, and available in specific colours?
Thanks for any help

Hi Alan,
Sorry can't advise. Maybe come along to the Tuesday meet (next week and every first Tuesday of month) at Chipperfield and you can talk about Porsches all night!
Welcome,
Mark

PS: Where do you come from?

Alan,
If its definitely a fan noise, it could be coming from one of the footwell blowers, (part of the air heating system) these are 2, one on each side of the car in the front footwells, and are behind a panel about shin height, to the right side of your right leg when you have your foot on the go pedal, (assuming its a right hand drive) hope that makes sense. 3 or 4 screws buried in the carpet hold the panels on.
These are a common problem on 3.2's, it might need some WD40. They have an inlet tube coming from out of the sill at the door hinge end and outlet tube going up to behind the dash.
The only other fan blower at the front end is the fresh air one which is in the front trunk compartment and centrally positioned behind the dash.

Thanks Steve
Think you've got it spot on. The one additional thing I've noticed is that if the heater is turned to 0 (zero) then the noise goes away - however it comes back when the speed drops below 15 mph!!!??? Is it a fairly easy job - or do I have to go to a garage (have been using JZ Machtech since I bought the car)
