Will be watching this closely, as I'm just starting the exact same thing on mine at the moment. Mine doesn't look quite as bad from the outside, but inevitably it will get much worse before the picture starts to look better - as anyone who's done resto work will attest I'm sure ! Mike

I would be tempted to pull up the drivers side footwell carpet, lift out the sound absorber pad (it should just lift out) and peel back some of the sound deadening in front of the throttle peddle. I thought on my car that the floor pan was totally clean, can't see any problems from under the car but when I did above as part of my strip down I found some rust in that place, luckily only surface now so it should be fixable. Problem is that 20 odd years worth of grit and moisture goes down the gap in the carpet between the throttle peddle and the carpet, hence rust. Also have a careful look at the big mounting brackets that hold the torsion bar carrier onto the car. These can rot out but I understand you can buy replacements for not to much money so not the end of the world some ppl think. If not to bad I would treat as the steel is very thick on those bracekets so should hold up for several more years I would imagine.

Well unbelievably for the far NW of Scotland, it was sunny here the day so ended up painting the house (been putting it off for ages, lol). So didnt do much to car the day but hope to get back to it before the weekend. Uploaded all the photos to photobucket so people can have a spy at thier leisure. Will continue to post relevant pics of my progress here as I go along. Have wrapped wing up to edge of rot and going to use my mates sand blaster to clean it up so prob get that done the morrow as a minimum. That link to a 944 with real bad rot has put the fear into me, hoping things aint that bad, I dont think it is, but will find out, cheers all by the way link to album on photobucket is [link=http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/]http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/[/link]

here is after sandblasting, no place to hide for any rot, this is quite bad, but since wings are either super expensive or hard to come by I am going to try repair this as its is only the bottom (below stone chip level) and the rest of the wing is perfect, anybody seen one this bad

here I have started welding in new metal with the mig, I used cereal box to make templates and took carefully measurements to get it as close as possible. I have welded the inner section here and can now proceed to put outer lower part on. Then hopefully make up edge section and use hammer and dollies to get a good profile. Will stick more relevent pics up as I go along. Aint even touched the sill yet, but thought I would do wing first, just hoping I can get it all done before I get back to work. I uploaded all the pics to photobucket if anybody wants to see this in its full glory (or full uglyness is probably more appropriate, lol), cheers the now [link=http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/]http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/[/link]

Here are a couple of pics of mine - had relatively minor bubbling but, as always, were worse than expected once paint was off...ORIGINAL: diabloam here is after sandblasting, no place to hide for any rot, this is quite bad, but since wings are either super expensive or hard to come by I am going to try repair this as its is only the bottom (below stone chip level) and the rest of the wing is perfect, anybody seen one this bad![]()

Will hopefully get chance to work on it the morrow so will post how I am getting on. Removed sill with spot weld drill bit and air cut off saw and a plain old sealey air saw. Cheers all

Back from offshore for anybody following my work on sills. Having done drivers side I am now starting on passengers which isnt as bad (less remedial work on wing anyway), still I am putting whole new sill on and any other work underneath. Lost some pics from other side, so will probably post more relevant photos this time, plus have few tips I have picked up along the way. This side should go smoother, here couple links of pics on what this side looks like, cheers all, actually here is link to album, look at lastest pics, will post better next couple days [link=http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/]http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww14/diabloam/[/link]
