Rear wiper arm - daft question

At the Donington track day my rear wiper arm stopped working - the spline turns but the arm no longer moves. Having had a look the spindle attached to the motor has fine splines on it... and the wiper arm does not.

Would I be right assuming the rear wiper arm should also have splines on it? If so, I have the wrong wiper arm.

If my assumptions are correct, has anyone got the correct rear wiper arm they want to part with?

Cheers
Mick

It should indeed have matching splines. Your problem is far from uncommon though. Be aware that there are two types with 924, series one 944 and series two 944 up until 1988 having a larger shank diameter (and glass hole) than 1989 onward 944s and 968s.

Id fit a bung and do away with it. Theyre LHD orientated and of little real use, even if theyre working properly. I have removed mine and Rain-X'd the glass.

Many thanks. Mine is a 1986 oval dash so I have a large shank (I'm just showing off now [:D]).

If ever it failed I'd do away with it but since it works the temptation is to keep it!

Cheers
Mick

Mine worked perfectly and I removed it last weekend. The days of failing mechanisms seem to have passed, but the thing is still useless and only slightly less useless if you can fit a much larger blade.

Mine worked perfectly and I removed it last month. (Actually, that's a lie - it rattled. But it worked.)

Oli.

a) why not?
b) larger than what? I don't even know what the standard size is. When I replaced mine I measured the one that was on it (but who knows whether that was the official factory size), then realised I could fit one two inches longer (extra inch top and bottom)

Because the majority of cars produced had a side-attached wiper blade. Only 1989 and onwards cars had a wiper arm which accomodated a conventional wiper blade.

Gents,

Simply walk into any Motorworld and you can pick up a side mounted blade/pin adapter thingy for about £3. It replaces the standard slide fit on all modern Bosch blades. Fitted and sorted in about 30 seconds.

Then you can use any blade that fits. I know this because I've done this (and then just deleted the lot :))

More details please Ben. I just went in to my local Motorworld and enquired about this and they'd never heard of such a gadget.

My '89 Turbo had one of the rear wiper arms with the side mounted pin and I never had a problem replacing the blade? [&:]

I always bought a new Bosch wiper and it had a hole in the side which I transferred the pin from the old blade into.

Just away in France on holiday at the moment but will take a photo and upload when back. If I remember correctly the part is made by Champion.

I have got 2 spare. They come in packs of two. One I fitted, the other is in the garage somewhere. Neither any use to me as I have de-wipered now so happy to send out as freebies.

Could easily buy the remaining stock from my local Motorworld (Skipton) and post out when home too.

No probs Jim, I'm back on Sept 2 so will dig it out that weekend and send down.

I actually only have one spare for free as I have the wole wiper kit for sale here and on tipec and its kind of an integral part!
