Rear Camera Options

Has anyone any advice about the practicalities and options - if any - of fitting a reversing camera to a 2009 997.2 Carrerra S with PCB system?

I’m considering this option too, while upgrading the PCM to car play. Sextons quoted £250 plus vat to supply and fit rear camera. I’ve already got reversing sensors so maybe minimal gain.

Hi Mally, That is really helpful. Thanks. I'll see if I can get in touch with Sextons. So is it possible to upgrade the PCM 3 so that the camera shows on screen rather than go for a separate screen or rear mirror
replacements with built in screen that I have seen?

Take a look at this https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk
I've heard good things about it and getting it installed next week. You can feed in a rear camera to your PCM, so no extra screens. Also get car play and up to date navigation while retaining the original dials and surround.

Thanks Jonathan. The link seems to be Channel Island specialist. Are Sextons the Portsmouth based AV specialist?
It would be great to hear how your installation goes. Which model is your car?

Mine is a 997.2 C2 manual. I'll let you know next week! I had a very good call with Jay about upgrade options - see details below

Here's what I got from Nick at NM, and yes he is in Guernsey.
[blockquote]For the London area we recommend Sextons London www.sextonslondon.co.uk based in Ferrier Street. They have installed a significant number of our kits, the contact there is Jay.

Hi Jonathan, Did you get your reversing camera fitted as planned and are you happy with the results?

I have as yet not had a reversing camera fitted. I live in Barnet and Sextons in London is not the easiest for me to get to. I dont use my car much in the winter and will consider contacting Sextons in the Spring. Thank you for asking.
Regards

Hi Ian

This is a US kit and I am would not be happy trying to install this myself. I did have my dashcam installed by a company in Watford and they did quote something like £500 to fit a reversing camera about 4 years ago. I might try them again assuming they are still in business.

I had the habit fitted last week by sexton. My car is a very early 997.2 and apparently the PCM software is an early version. So the physical fitting of the camera is fine, looks discreet. But the PCM cant Read the input properly. Camera view shows for a second then flicks off. They are working on a solution.

Hi Mally62, Did Jay manage to sort the input/software issue you were having with the reversing camera?

Not yet. I'm waiting till after the holidays to chase. The rest of it works well - navigation, audio etc. So far the only downside compared to a fully integrated system, is that it's a bit of a faff to switch between the radio (running off the original PCM) and Apple Music (running off the new software). Not a deal breaker for me. I like that this solution retains the orginal controls and surrounds.

Thanks Mally 62, I'd love to know how it resolves and will call them when I know you are happy.

Hi Mally 62, Was thinking I might call Jay next week about reversing camera. Did you manage to resolve your issues?

Sounds like I will have to be patient with the reversing camera. I spoke to OPC and fitting using the PCM will invalidate my extended warranty. I'll just have to refine my driving skills and be more patient when parking.:ROFLMAO:

hi,
Jay fitted the new 'brains' today and the camera works fine. Very straightforward and I imagine this fixes any future issues with early 997.2 cars.

Thanks Mally62, Good news but it looks like I may need to wait for mine. OPC tell me that I'll invalidate the extended warranty if I have it fitted[:(]
