Theres me worrying about where the funding for the Silverstone Classic is coming out of []

Oh how the other half live []

Oh come on - without a load of rich yuppies spending money like there was no tomorrow, there wouldn't be half as many 944's around for us to enjoy today.

Good to see you have traded up to a 944

I park next to a Yellow Cayman 5 days a weeks It really is Gorgeous! ...but £57K I'll look at it a Little different tomorrow!

I'm sorry but I really don't understand this. Personally I say good for him!
It is a lot of money, but if you've worked hard and can afford such a luxury then why not? I'm sure what we 944 owners spend on our cars is considered madness/an extravagence by many. There are enough people outside the Porsche world ready to knock people for 'wasting' money is it not best that we support a fellow enthusiast? [&:]

Exactly and as has been said, in years to come that's a well spec'd Cayman (assuming its still going) out there for a new breed of enthusiast.

True Gents
That Cayman will depreciate steadily to the point in 20 years time that Cayman will be in our hands and we will be envious of the buyers of the latest models.. what ever they will be....[:D]

If boys like that dont buy them new now then we have no chance of getting them later... !

Does anyone on here have their 944 from brand new out of the box.....?

I think you may have missed the point Peter.[;)]

I was certainly not critisizing him for spending a lot of money on a car or anything else.
What I was commenting on was his somewhat flippant comment that a loss of £57,000 in depreciation was nothing to worry about. Thats just showing off but in rather poor taste I would say but my comment was made `tongue in cheek' as they say.

It's All Relative..........
I spent £2K on a Guitar (nearly 10 years ago)....Which I still Have and Use Everyday!..Which what my 24s cost me 5Mths ago......
Would I spend 2K on a Guitar Now...Of Course I would! + Tax 24/7...!
OOh ..I'm just Jealous!

Hang about, I'm hoping they have depreciated to the £12k mark in 8 years time, which is when I'll jump on the bandwagon, but I'll have a Boxster before then

I haven't had my S2 from new but I bought it at 8 years old for the princely some of £12k after it had depreciated by £28k (or £3.5k a year [])

Can someone tell Rick......[:)]

I don't think I did miss the point, I just think there's a different way to read the same statement, that's all.

Have you honestly never received a really big bill for your car (or any other luxury you enjoy) and said to yourself "oh well, it's only money"? Sounds flippant when written down, but I'm sure everyone of us has done the same at some time or other. This is how I took the statement he made, nothing more. After all, if we were sensible and rational we wouldn't be here in the first place, as there are far cheaper forms of transport available.

I do thank you for posting this thread so that I now know just how much you can spec a Cayman up to, which is something of an eye opener (I must have a play on the Porsche site to see how far I can get one up to!), I just didn't think the tone and context was really necessary within a club forum.

P.S. I did warn everyone I'd be a grumpy bu66er without my car, guess I've now proved this [:)]

<edited to replace the **** the forum inserted with some semblance of a proper word>

oh christ Peter get a life mate. Its a joke . Everybody else in the thread clearly saw this and joined in the humour.
[:D]
Actually by co-incidence guess what is on Top Gear right now !? yes its the `Copster' (Caymen /Boxter) [;)]

Hi Peter, Ollie did say you were not to be wound up at the moment......[;)]

Guess the point was that we all have different ideas of where money ceases to have any relevance to the experience. Quite a few people have failed to understand the fact that we've spent over £4k on our two dogs this year, when we could have had them put down and bought new puppies for far less. Personally I'd have sold the car without a thought if it was the only way to pay the vet.....and I'd put some of my "friends" down before the dogs!

Still feels slightly uncomfortable to me that tens of thousands of £££s means so little to some people whilst half the world exists on something like a dollar a day.

Right, after that I need to open another bottle of Tesco's "two for 1" red and remember how lucky I actually am!

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Pah, that's nothing! I've just spent a virtual £67,542 specifying a Cayman on the Porsche website. Go on, give it a go and see if you can top that (I only did it quickly so there's bound to be a better combination out there).

P.S. Ollie's just saying that as he knows that he'll probably get what's left of my bank account once the bodyshop have finished [:)]

Guys look at it like this from what I've read when the 944 turbo came out it was around 26000k in around 1984, you could have brought a 3 bed semi in the midlands for that but today the 3 bed cost 175000k so like for like the caymen is a quite cheep compared to a 1986 944 turbo LOL sorry only joking [:D][:D][:D]
