Reading 2006 - were you there?

I have a bit of a mystery car in the workshop at the moment and I am trying to trace its history.

I know at some point prior to 2006 it had a dual port wastegate, chips and a manual boost controller installed by us and I know it was one of the cars that attended the 944 meeting at the New Inn in 2006 as it is in the photos and is wearing one of the reading 2006 stickers that Rick made for the event.

The car in question is the dark grey 1986 944 turbo with a burgundy leather interior with the registration A7LRF

Anyone remember being there and the car? I know PaulS, JohnS, SimonP, TonyF, BenB and many of the regulars from then and now were there, anyone remember the owner?

I need to go into the archives to dig through paper invoices to find out and that could take me weeks, so was just wondering if anyone remembers who had it back then.. The upsetting thing is that the owner back then by all accounts passed away some time ago, possibly not long after the event and the car very nearly ended up in a crusher

Must be another TonyF? 2006 was before my Porsche time. I know Craig (sadly missed) had numerous Porsches, but never mentioned he had a turbo.

You could ask in R19 region - 924nutter or JasonD may know.

I was there, but don't remember that car specifically.

The trouble with the Heckfield event was alway dismal weather, and the awful Nigel Nixon. His gold car with the burgundy-overload interior only came out once a year, and he really wanted you to know about it! [

You have just said a name which was in my head as being who I thought owned this car. Why did you say Craig? was his surname something like Scott?

Craig was well known and ran TIPEX region - most likely he was at the event - I will check if he owned a turbo. 'Scotty' owned an immaculate White S2 and was infamously banned on here.

Maybe a different Craig, the one I am worried may have been the previous owner was Craig Scott, he was a young chap who was in the armed services, I think he was a Apache helicopter mechanic somewhere where there were also American servicemen, not seen him for years but he was a lovely young chap and really enthusiastic for his dark grey 944 turbo.. Then this car came in, with one of our boost controllers on it and being a less common colour than baltic blue or guards red, with the new owner saying the previous owner died about 9 years ago made me wonder if it was Craig.

Don't think he had several Porsches or was an RO in Tipec, but I could be wrong.

Ah.. after some more digging, you are thinking about Craig Moore the TIPEC RO for Thames Valley.. Although it was shocking to hear you say the name Craig, as the person I believe in the back of my mind used to own this car was a Craig. But the more I look into this, the more sure I am that the owner was Craig Scott.. Very sad.

The late Craig Moore owned a silver 993 targa, then a lhd 911 targa in black circa 1970/80 then a darkish blue S2 coupe then a 968 shortly before his brain tumour erupted. I don't ever recall him turning up in a 944t

Sadly, the more I look into it, the more sure I am that this car was once the property of one of my customers from 10 years ago, a young chap who worked in the Army as a Apache technician called Craig Scott. Back then he was probably just in his mid 20's with his life ahead of him and it would seem he was killed in Afganistan or possibly Iraq.

The odd thing is that he also seems to not be listed as killed in action on any of the MOD websites, I feel compelled to find out what happened to him.
