The roads in these parts (North Midlands) are currently clean, bone dry and totally salt free so I've just been out for an hour of fun. It's amazing how good the car still feels even after all these years, road tyres help and I really believe that these and all older cars benefit from regular use which was the main reason for waking it.

Colder weather on the way again soon, I'm glad I took my chance when I could.

My suspension feels spot-on, I sometimes wonder if it has softened over time (not much!). Have many people on here fitted the KW3 type suspension and, if so, what is it like, road and track?

Absolutely, I´ve been doing that for many years now with all my old cars and it keeps them in good shape - let alone the fun you have!
 
I have the KWV3 too Ian, no departures into Badger sets, just runs on rails and behaves very well and directional, slightly firm under foot, but a very rewarding drive[:)] unlike the softer later versions [;)]
 
Nice one Ian! Hopefully get a few dry days over the Christmas hols? blew the dust off mine the other day but I still get nervous driving at this time of year on Cup tyres! I have V3 on mine. I find it much better on road as it feels more compliant without losing the firmness of the original springs and shocks. To my mind a lot of the "race car feel" comes with the uniballs, which the V3's retain. The factory used a similar set up on the 3.8 RS so there must be something in it. Fired mine up today and run it up the drive and back (it's sorned) . Gave it a bit of a clean inside too. Must be the warm weather we're having[:D] Likely i will put the car up for sale in the new year.

Oh Laurence ..... you have owned these cars longer than me, I remember your Lovely Red RS, and how you missed the car so much you could not wait to get on that Ferry to Calais and hot foot down to Tomasz, except these days you need at least 200,000euro to enter his Kingdom of original virgin one lady owner cars with original paint and matching number full history never tracked cars[;)]

[;)] Des, 200,000 EURO ? Check mobile.de and you´ll find what Mr. T. is really asking for original virgin one lady owner cars.... Laurence, you´ll regret it....
 
Laurence, wait for the spring, your car may appear a bargain once prices have the anticipated post Essen horn? Of course, you may regret selling it, but a new 3.8L, 380bhp Cayman GT4 and a glovebox stuffed full of money may help to ease the pain a little! :)

Ian, you know my C2 very well. It's pretty track focused these days and has the KW3 suspension. Every time I jump out of mine into an RS for a trip round the track, the RS feels so much more track focused and makes mine feel soft! Keep it standard mate! [:)] Will probably be better for the future value too. Seeing as values have already been mentioned again! [:D]
 
Shame you haven't been out in mine Steve. Would be an eye opener. I don't want to sell but I have a dilemma. Track day a 100k + car with a 10k + excess and have to find the money to do the track days i love. Or buy something considerably cheaper with little or no excess and have a wedge of cash to do the track days comfortably. A dilemma indeed.

It is not so hard , I remember going on a Porsche Factory Visit in ?2002 , the same one as you and your then partner and your yellow RS - you were outside washing your true love when I arrived at the Alsace gasthaus ... I was in a 996 as my newly acquired black 964RS with 28000 km on the clock was not ready.... I did have a long and meaningful relationship with my 964RS and managed over 50 trackdays and a further 65000 km before running into the same problem as you with an inflated value car and a bank breaking track day excess on the insurance....also I was getting too feeble to deal with non power assist steering....so sold up and got a non RS because I enjoy trackdays more than ownership of an icon . So there is life after an RS !

How longs your dirve? Is it like Lord March's? Maybe you could sell off an acre at the front, or let the buttler go? hehe.....:) :-0 Only kidding. Tough decisions Laurence, and only you can decide. We've discussed it many times, they arent the cheapest car to track, and the value proposition is a challenge.
 
Back to the top of the thread, had the yellow one out today and agree with all said above by Ian. Merry Xmas all and look forward to 2015 track days!
 
Laurence, Sorry for the delay in replying, house full of people this time of year :) Still have both cars, will keep them through next year I think unless I get a silly offer on the N/GT - also thinking about what next.... Cheers, Kevin
