RAC, AA or Green Flag?

Afternoon

Having recently bought a 24 year old 944 I figured it is about time I got some breakdown cover. I suspect they are much the same but I was wondering if anyone would know which is the best to go for out of RAC, AA or Green Flag. Ie which one is most likely to get their hands dirty should it be needed?

I usually take whatever comes cheap with my insurance. I always get the minimum cover. As long as I can get off the motorway I am happy. I think they are all pretty much the same though. Go for the best price I would say. You also shouldn't presume that she will break down either just because she is 24. Remember not only is she 24 she is a 944!! Mine has only ever let me down once and to be fair it wasn't her fault. A dodgy immobiliser full of ditch water fitted by and idiot!! Welcome to the forum mate []

Different answer for me. I do price hop as I do with everthing but I find its always playing off the RAC and AA against each other now.
The A.A and the R.A.C very similar but Green Flag use too many 3rd party contractors who are literally tow truck only. Recently I had a home breakdown and I have never bothered with Home Start , I phoned the A.A and they let me pay the upgrade and came straight round and towed me to the garage. For my mind paying a 40 quid upgrade and getting a free tow straight away is a bloomin good deal so the A.A have moved straight to the top of my list. Also personal cover for any car you are in as standard is a great deal as you never know whose 944 ' you'll be in' when it gets stuck [] Just my personal experience I know.

Whichever my bank account gives me for free, was RAC until recently then they changed to the AA not long ago.

RAC were always prompt, I've had the AA out twice, once for the Mrs car once for mine when the Alt. bushes went, prompt both times.

Cover is basic, but I can upgrade to Relay with them directly. Have you checked with your bank?

Can only speak for Halifax, but for £12.50 a month I get AA, Mobile Insurance & Holiday Insurance, and because I pay in over £1k a month I get £5 back, so all that really only costs me £7.50 []

I've been looking into this and AA small print says:

'Where only Roadside Assistance is held, the vehicle must be no more than 10 years old at the date of registration with the AA.'

So you would need more than roadside assiatance as no 944 are less than 10 years old, not sure about RAC or Greenflag.

Looking into this and I've come up with a company called IC Breakdown same cover as AA, RAC etc charge £70 for they charge £29.

£55 for a years 'Relay' with the RAC, and theyll renew for that next year too (unlike the AA). The AA have jipped me out of vouchers that were part of a deal, taken £125 from my account without authorisation and broken my 944 on both occasions they came out to it (the last time seriously. On other occasions over a four year period they were reasonably prompt, but rubbish beyond that). My claims will settle one aspect of this, but not the ill feeling; so Id urge you all to avoid them for Porsche business, under all circumstances.

In my experience pretty much all Breakdown assistance companies will struggle beyond very basic problems with cars of our age as they are used to 95% breakdowns being plug n play modern cars. Bearing this in mind I prefer to be with one of the 'tow jockey' companies that use local garages. Twice I have had to call Green Flag and both times I had a local tow truck to take me home (or my indie) within 15-20 minutes

I recommend RAC - I had a puncture and had left my pump at home. I called the RAC from the Cat and Fiddle pub (in the middle of no where basically) and they were there within 20mins!

[FONT=Times New Roman"]I have been with the RAC since I bought the car. I think at the time they offered the best cover when I went to Le Mans. Porker has been so reliable that I've never used them, but 3 times on my landy! Brit engineering, eh?

We're the opposite, I've joined my partner's AA, and we're now "members since 1977". That's got us a huge amount of extra help over the years, quoting our loyalty has meant extra service several times (and I passed my test in '82 [&:]). Most importantly, it's when you're most in trouble that you need that extra help.

Not perfect, in fact their Van cover is appalling, but it's been a God-send on more than one occasion that we've been long-term members. And we get Club discount now, not a reason to join, but a nice extra.

I have only used RAC and AA, Currently with the AA but would recommend the RAC. It's small details like AA do not cover you if you need the use of extension ramps to get you on the trailer when they come to collect you (because you have a low car like a turbo for example) you have to pay extra where with the RAC they are free!

AA have plenty of experience with lowered turbos.....you do need Mr Sims directing you though. []

That wasnt the fellow that came to mine. He damaged it loading at and he was the fouth or fifth person they sent...

Moved to New Zealand and is keeping pretty busy without his 944 - he was still talking about shipping it out to NZ if he couldn't sell it here,
