RO John Lord has kindly offer to let us read his PP report on the forum, hopefully to allow some more adavanced information (and reminders).
PCGB, Region 13, Hereford, Worcester & Shropshire
September 2006.
The "Trumpet Inn,"
Is situated at the cross roads of the A417 and A438 and will continue to be our meeting place for 2006, on the Third Monday of the Month. A programme is now available, phone me if you haven't received one.
July was hot. A small group of us enjoyed each other's company in the garden and whiled the evening away with various subjects. I suppose, being holiday time, there are other things on the agenda.
"All Around the Wrekin" was the title of our Treasure Hunt this year and we did just that. Starting from Wooferton, we skirted Ludlow, Much Wenlock, Hungerford and Shrewsbury before going further north towards Whitchurch and Market Drayton. Finishing off the morning run at Tern Hill Hall Hotel in magnificent surroundings, where we were treated to coffee, tea and scones with jam and cream, sponsored by Steve of CMS, based at Ketley near Telford. Thank you Steve for a finger licking break.
The afternoon continued with a ride around Newport, ( the only town we passed through) Shifnal, Bridgnorth and Ironbridge . A short stop was at "˜Viroconium', close to Wroxeter. This was the fourth largest Roman City in Britain and now exists as basically a ground level ruin except for one arched, almost folly like standing structure.
A well earned meal, at the end of the run, was welcomed by all; at Halfpenny Green Craft Centre, which also boasts a vineyard. The day was enjoyed by a great variety of Porsches, not forgetting their owners, of which there was a fair selection of West Midlanders as well as HW & S- Members. The winner was a lovely yellow 914 and I suppose owners Tom and Lorraine Loder of West Midlands had something to do with it ! Well done.
Our grateful thanks to stalwarts. Graeme and Tracey who once again organised this and did us proud.
Watch this space, they already have a WOTY planned for Scotland next year, at a price you will not believe.
In September, I have arranged through our counterparts at the VSCC, for Dick Skeet to come and talk to us about the Hereford- Gloucester Canal System. This should be an interesting evening, covering a much quieter time of transport than we are used to today. However, we shall no doubt be also looking at the modern touring aspect of the Canal as well. Do come along and make Dick feel at home, with a good turn out. Usual 7.45 pm onwards.
Not having an OPC in our Region, Sutton Coldfield are hosting Region 9's meeting on Thursday the 21st September and you are welcome to join if you wish. See Region 9 report.
If you are in the area, you are also welcome to visit Paul Seagrave's "˜do', on Sunday the 17th September. Again see Region 9.
Forthcoming Events.
3rd Monday Meetings.
18th September, Dick Skeet will be telling us about the Hereford Gloucester Canal system.
16th October. A look at simple aerodynamics.
Week End Meetings.
Sunday 1st October. - There is an Autojumble at Cornbury House. Always an interesting event.
Sunday the 15th October
We have another Fun Run/ Treasure Hunt, sponsored by OPC Sutton Coldfield
Saturday 18th November "" We are invited to an open morning at "˜ Porsceshop', at Halesowen, Birmingham, to view their extended premises and discuss any problems with Ian and his team, over coffee and biscuits.
Wording a Report is a bit like "˜Going around the Wrekin'!
