Questions on heating

lol... I should have waited...sorry Martin...i'll post them back if you give me your address....:)

Hi Pete

Your thermistors probably need changing, but I don't think that is your issue. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think when you hit demist it ignores the thermistor readings and simply goes full heat without any attempts to regulate things. I have thermistors to change, and my symptoms are the heat starts to back off the longer you drive, and when up full, its still hot but not piping hot like when the demist is engaged. If I'm out in baltic conditions I press demist to get proper heat in the cabin once the heat has backed off a bit. Granted it points it all up to the windscreen but it heats the cabin up quite quickly! This obviously brings you no closer to a solution, but thought it was worth adding in.

Did i send you some Stuart?

I have been sort of having this conversation over PM, I'm not convinced its the thermistors either.

Pete keep them, or post them on to the next person that needs a set

I bought my own from RS and then misplaced them. I was sent 3 by Graham I think who owns Ferdy, the turbo s. I've discussed them with loads of people but I'm sure what I've said here is correct!

Thanks for the info Stuart...thanks also to Martin for the links, I have printed off all the details that I think I need...still not sure on the various plastic/metal click part numbers but I'm still looking...I now need to see if my son has time to help me diagnose and hopefully fix the problem. I don't want to leave the car unused over winter but this year I think that for the first time I may have too as I'm feeling the cold far more these days....

I’m sure the clips are listed in one of Clarke’s documents, pictures with the clips circled and the part number

Thanks, Martin...got them...shall order them tomorrow...spoke to son who said he'll try to fit me in asap...let's hope it's not too long...

Pete

thermisters arrived safely..I'll post them on to anyone else if needed as requested Martin..I have also ordered the metal/plastic clips from Porsche West London...I have downloaded everything that I can find relating to the heating system...so bt tomorrow I should have all I need ready for when my son is free...

Hope it's not too long, as you say, Martin, those cannon balls are now rolling around the deck...:)

Different question but still heating related......

I only use the car every couple of weeks or so and once the heater gets I get an unpleasant whiff for a few minutes then it disappears. Only happens after car has not been used recently. I’m guessing there is some detritus or mould in the system somewhere so just wondered where the first place to look should be?

The one recommended by detailing world is the Dakota Bomb

my A4 smells like cheesey feet some times, and to sort that out I put the system on recirculating and fans flat out, then spray loads of Detol all in one anti bacterial spray in the foot wells and just let it run for about 5 mins

much cheaper than these aircon fresheners

Thanks guys,

I hadnt thought of something so simple - i was ready to start dismantling stuff.

I'll give the spray a try first.
