Psychological barrier broken, 100k up!

My car turned over the 100k mark today, last 7k in my ownership. It had been teasing me for weeks with the numbers all starting to twist round bit by bit and I'd always took some comfort out of my "low" mileage car being sub 100k. However as soon as the 100,000 flipped over all the numbers magically went back into line and I immediately started to think about the next 100k, with a big smile on my face!

In all honesty my car had done about 600 miles in the two years before I bought it and everything brake and suspension wise was all pretty tired. It still drove not bad and had a wicked turn of speed. However, with all that sorted and the car now benefiting from regular maintenance and regular use it just keeps getting better and better!

I definitely concur that these cars love to be driven and that mileage really doesn't matter too much as long as plenty TLC is meted out!

Going out for a drive, 100,016 now (stop counting!!!!!!!!!!!!)[:D]
 
Careful you better wind the clock back. It'll be classed as worthless to a fair few people now it's in 6 figure territory![;)]
 
If it makes you feel any better mine has done 212.400 (1986 Oval Dash) and its still feeling very new. Slight whine from the rear somewhere and one squeaky door panel but still got grunt and a pleasure to drive.
Mine benefitted from an owner prior to me who spent something in the order of £3k over 18 months so all the big jobs like discs, belts , leaky sunroof, tyres, suspension bushes have been done - for the time being!

 
Mine turned 150 yesterday and still tight as a drum. Lol I actually watched the clock as it turned - Good Car - well done [:)]
 
My S2 is also coming up to the 100,000 mark (about 500 miles to go), I'm really looking forward to the next 100,000!

Mine recently passed the 20k mark in my 18months of ownership, previously it had only covered 6k in the preceeding 8 yrs !
 
Passed 120K yesterday, I guess we're all using the cars more now the weather is so good! [:)]

Looks wistfully out at the torrential rain....[&o]
 
Other than mine gradually taking longer to catch when im starting it and the noisy passenger door mine feels great to drive. 224,365 and counting.
 
Just about to cross 160k here.

Odd to think that I bought it at 117k, and have hence done nearly 45k miles in it. That means I have done over a quarter of the car's total milage. But then, I think I am the fourth owner, so that makes sense. (Mind you, the last owner only did about 7k miles in it. And spent a fortune on it ... some you win, I guess.)

Mine clicked onto 199k last week, a few jobs to do this year to bring her back up to standard, but the oily bits seem to be OK (If a little too oily!)
 
I don't care what the odometer reads any more because I plan to keep mine forever.It's on 157,*** the faster it goes up the better in my eyes because it means I'm getting good use from the car.

It's not doing many miles at the moment though. Removing all the rust is a job that just grows and grows! I probably should have just done the obvious bits. Ignorance is bliss. Don't strip back the inside of your arches because mine looked fine inside and out until I stripped it back to bare metal and saw it was starting to rust almost everywhere!!
 
I would be interested to know who has the highest milage with original bores rings and pistons,just to see if the mercedes porsche alusil blocks are good for 3000,000+ miles (with regular oil changes of course)

Difficult, as you rarely know the history of the car from new. There was a Volvo P1800 in the states that ran something stupid like a million miles, but with constant 55MPH coasting, one owner and religious oil changes, I'd guess most cars would achieve this. Citroens and all Italian cars excepted, of course. [:D]
 
Any car can go on for quite some time. The highest mileage car that's been through my hands has been a Mk3 Ford Mondeo with 390,000 miles where the diff blowing up made me scrap the car. Most of the car now lives in other peoples cars (someone bought the engine, and interior etc.) Strange thing is, that car was in better condition than most of the wrecks that I am looking at now (although people didn't think it did the mileage the clocks said).

A mate's Pug 306 GTi-6 has done 250,000 miles where the original clutch was changed at 244k. He used it on a number of trackdays and at a recent Dyno day it was 5BHP behind the highest stock powered GTi-6 of the day. Again, that car is in better shape than most other Phase 1 GTi-6s.
 
I was interested in cars like the mercs and porsches with the alusil blocks,I don't understand the citroen dig I had an original volcane 1900 with mp3.1 injection went on for ever, 198000 when I sold it and did not burn oil.
