PSE - Driver reactions

PSE was one of the best options selected, when you are in the mood it's sensational. A particular favorite is the barpy overrun I get on changing down - just so politically incorrect.

BUT - I have to say that other drivers really hear you coming and seem to escalate from calm to defcon 5 in an instant. Really have found that it brings the worst out in other road users. Even worse than that driving home from work yesterday a terrified senior "older" lady nearly drove off the road in a particularly ill conceived driving manoveour to let me by. Now trust me on this I was a safe distance behind (no stone chips), driving at steady speed and no flashing of lights - made me feel somewhat humble

Anyone else experience this effect??

I have mine constantly disconnected (ie: loud mode right through the rev range) and the other day it got me into a bit of bother with a local resident.

As I drove past him in second gear and on part throttle, he was gesticulating wildly at the front of my car. In alarm I pulled over and jumped out to see which headlight, number plate or piece of the front spoiler was hanging off - none was.

By now he had got into his own car (Citroen Picasso) and pulled up alongside, wound down the window and unnecessarily warned me that I was in a 30 mph area. I responded that I was fully aware of the speed limit and that was why I had been travelling at about 28 mph!

He stated smugly that "he didn't think so" with a hint of all Porsche drivers are "to55ers" to which I suggested that he go home and increase the population of his family (much to my shame) which has probably elevated his above assumption about Porsche drivers into firm fact!

Point is, I do experience quite a bit of negative feedback in the form of aggressive drivers etc when in the 911 which I never got with my M3 - theres' nowt as queer as folk!!

It does seem to have the opposite effect whilst driving past a group of teenage lads though!

I shouldnt worry about it, just think of the pleasure you are giving to enthusiasts who appreciate the noise. I still wind my windows down when I am next to a nice car at the lights etc just to hear it pull away.

Some people always have a problem with Porsche cars and their owners regardless how noisey they are.

Has anybody driven through the Brynglas tunnels on the M4 near Newport?

The perfect place to hear your PSE !

This is very true but at 42 I kind of feel a bit ashamed to be attracting the attention of the Halfords MaxPower generation - is nice though!

I'm "only" 32, but I know what you mean! It certainly wasn't a deliberate move!

Still... It is nice to keep in touch with the yoof of today!

I have mine hacked to 'always on' but I always try to see who's on the pavement before making even the smallest movements with my right foot. I try to keep it quite if I see old people on the side of the road as I don't want to give them a heart attack.

In fact, I was walking under a nearby railway tunnel the other day and a Lamborghini Gallardo came through in first gear from behind me. It scared me half to death when he dropped a gear, but I found myself with a big smile on my face for ages afterwards [:D]

Ever since then I do try and rev a little when going passed people I *think* may appreciate the glorious PSE notes. Sadly, the best reaction I get is typically from under 10 year olds who usually start pointing to their friends to come and see, followed by screaming 'nice car Mr!'

I guess that means even at 30 I'm still just a big kid! [8D]
