price of neglect

this is the cost of neglect. I've not been looking after my baby cos another has come into my life and taken all my attention for the past 6 months.
Yesterday I suffered complete brake loss (pedal to the carpet) for the second time in months and so I thought I'd check my fluid levels.

Brake fluid was on minimum ![:(]
PAS level on minimum ![:(]

Clutch fluid low but look at the state of the fluid ? never seen such a gloop.

She's going to need a new brake master cyclinder and clutch cylinder seals .Probably a brake vacumm seal kit and new front brake discs and pads . I'll probably do a refurb of the calipers whilst I'm there.
Just checked and MOT was due weeks ago [8|] I forgot ......

If there was anything else wrong with her I think I'd have to scrap her

Its easy to forget when you've got other priorities. Shouldn't be too bad a job to get that all done, at least wont need doing for a while once sorted

exactly my thoughts ...now who the hell was it that last serv.......................ah yes it was me [:(][:D]

Don't forget the clutch slave cylinder. - The sludge in the fluid pot - is everywhere including in the slave cyclinder, then one cold night the water in the sludge freezes and the cylinder is dead, no clutch. The slave can leak fluid past without any external sign. Been there done that! The bleed nipple in the slave also corrodes in and is unmoveable if its not been used for a long while. And yes you have to bite the bullet and remove the starter motor to replace it, not a big deal when you actually get and do it......

I seem to recall hearing about the break-down of the hose from the reservoir to the master cylinder on these - I wonder if that is what has caused your fluid to go so, er, yuck! If that is the case, then you might be lucky and the fluid in the master cylinder/slave cylinder is clean - change the hose, flush it through with nice clean fluid, and your problem (with the clutch at least) may be solved.

Good idea Tref ,I might well do that normally but the car needs an MOT so I might as well get them to do all the work . I don't have anywhere to do this sort of work anymore and my snooty neighbours look down their collective noses at me as they prune their geraniums with a pair of scissors[]
They already think I'm the local hooligan because I have the audacity to check and fill my own oil and water ...!... well really![8|]

Imagine how they feel about us now that we have bought a Campervan ho ho ho [:D] it was worth it just for the look on their faces as we drove it down the lane and parked it in front of their well manicured costwold gardens [;)]

What is that you say Nick? You could do with your local PCGB branch arranging a "Scenic drive" round to your place to give you a hand??? It always raises a few eyebrows when everything from my beat-up ol' S2 through to the latest 911s and Caymans turn up - the neighbours never seem to know whether to lock the doors and call the police or embrace with open arms[;)]
