And what prey is an RS Sport? Certainly not a factory designation.
Nice pictures and comprehensive but likely to cause some confusion! Probably upset the owners of the rhd 3.8RS's 'cos apparently they never made any [:(] And Mel had better start searching for his alloy door panels!
Seriously there are mistakes, and as time goes on this sort of stuff can be interpreted as correct which makes it harder to prove provenance and easier to build fakes.
Real problem is that this is a good, well respected mag. if they make errors like this how many mistakes are there in the articles on the really rare and obscure stuff - Information or Entertainment?

Yes, full of mistakes, really annoyed me, or am I just a bit sad ??? (no need to answer that one). Lots of very basic stuff just plain wrong. Do they ever bother to get articles checked over for technical accuracy by marque specialists prior to publishing ? Given the rash of incorrect rubbish in articles in all of the Porsche mags in recent months I guess not ..........

With interest in the 964rs moving the way it is, it's worrying that some inaccuracies in the article may be interpreted as correct (as Tony pointed out) by future buyers. I know of several people (including myself) who have used these buyers guides as one of their main sources of information when viewing particular models of Porsche.

Perhaps all the inaccuracies could be listed here, and someone with a lot more knowledge than me of the finer technical details of the 964rs could write to P&911W to put them right (unfortunately my knowledge is limited to the various buyer's guide I have read - including P&911World's guide from March 2005).

It seems to be a regular occurance in P&911W that they have to dedicate column inches to correcting details they have incorrectly printed in previous issues.

Of course, the problem with the 964RS buyer's guide is it's out in the public domain now, and unfortunately will be used as a 'bible' in the future.

I used Laurence Gibbs' Buyer's Guide [ http://www.porsche964.co.uk/variants/964_rs.htm ] as a reference when searching for my RS, and found it very useful.

Might it be possible (as a register) to produce a 'Definitive 15th Anniversary 964RS Buyer's Guide' which could be produced in digital format (pdf) and sent out to the numerous people who apparently call Des on a weekly basis for info on the RS? It could be designed professionally and perhaps any costs involved could be covered by PCGB, or some of the independent specialists (GT Classics, H&S, etc - after all, anyone who is after an RS ends up at their websites sooner or later). It could possibly be used as a hand-out at Ragley and Silverstone.

...Or the buyer's guide could simply be a thread pinned to the top of this forum - this way it would be easy to update (prices etc) and potential buyers/enthusiasts could be directed to it easily.

If someone volunteers to write/collate/edit the written content, I would be a happy to do a professional layout job on it and create the pdf (I was a graphic designer in a previous life but am a little rusty nowadays - alternatively one of our resident up-to-the-minute designers might like to sprinkle their creative magic on it?).

It's not a new problem I'm afraid and it is getting worse - driven in part by the internet but I reckon if you set yourself up as a specialist mag you have a responsibility to be as accurate as possible.
What I did find fascinating about this article (apart from the invention of the RS Sport [>:]) was that the credits for advice and guidance omitted the two companies who've probably had more RS's through the door (for sale or service) than all the rest put together (no prizes - both post on this forum!)

I think your idea of a PCGB buyers guide is excellent and although I might be some distance away, electronic comms are so good that I am happy to offer to lend a hand. That doesn't mean write the whole thing(!), but at very least I can edit the bits about RHD being better.......[;)] I think this would be the best way of marking 15 years.

I need to get a copy of the offending article so as to have a laugh!
 
Would be more than happy to put this baby together if content and imagery is supplied by the collective...

I'm sure between Rich and I we can come up with an appealing layout and format for it.

You know where I am when needed...
 
Who wrote the 911 & PW article??

The last time an in depth was done by them (David Sutherland) on the 964RS, they sent me and Des draft article to proof (and no, Des didn't inflate the prices.....[;)])

Haven't read it and the innacuracies already annoy me too!!!!
 
Next edition of Total 911 should be accurate, had a little input, saying that the number of times I have given correct information only to be misquoted or typo'd....[:(]

Err really Simon, that's why a RHD was sourced for the article.....and in particular the new levels of pricing on RHD 964RS you should be pleased....[;)]
